That's the official story. I think they just don't want anyone to see right now. Yeah, I hear you on that. Hugh M Eye User ID: 12686402 United States 03/18/2012 12:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First, let me state that gamma rays, like x-rays and galactic cosmic rays, do not affect the magnetosphere at all. They pass right through it. When we see an X-flare from the sun, the x-rays (along w/gamma rays) are here at light-speed (minutes) and we don't see any magnetospheric disturbance until days later and only if a CME (mass particles) also hits us. Also, when solar activity is at a high level (like recently), the amount of galactic cosmic rays reaching Earth is greatly decreased as the solar wind overpowers them. It is known as the Forbush decrease. Quoting: Hugh M Eye [link to wattsupwiththat.com] More here: [link to neutronm.bartol.udel.edu] Hi hugh, kinda grabbed your post to EL and wish to ask a question if thats ok... if the gamma rays, cosmic rays etc that come with a flare pass through the magnetosphere, at what point are they dangerous to us? What size flare gives off high enough levels of this radiation to be dangerous if at all? .. cheers On the ground we're mostly protected by the Earth's atmosphere. Airline pilots, frequent fliers, and Everest-climbers are more exposed to X-radiation due to the thinner atmosphere. Of course astronauts are much more exposed. The danger is difficult to quantify; but statistically, the more exposure, the greater chance of cancerous cell mutation. All-in-all, being repeatedly naked-body-scanned at airports or living near Fukushima is far more dangerous than an X20-flare. Of course, with holes in the ozone layer it's wise to wear a big-brimmed hat and not to lie naked on the beach in the noon-time sun. Without the ozone's protection, UV sunlight is just as dangerous as gamma or x-rays; and well-known to be a cause of malignant skin cancer. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 12653160 United States 03/18/2012 03:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Regarding the huge isoceles triangle now formed on the sun: The triangle is nearly the size of the sun. It's lines are perfectly straight - nature doesn't do that. CME's are being sucked into it. Suns ARE stargates. (Think black hole/wormhole.) Those sundiving comets aren't comets - they're going thru the gate. (The sun and all planets are hollow, due to centrifugal force. Why do you think Admiral Byrd could find an inner earth?) |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 6592383 United States 03/18/2012 06:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NICT being down has nothing to do with a satellite being down. NICT is not a satellite. What we are calling NICT, is a computer program. Specifically, the graphics/visual output of that program. The input for that program is ACE data. ACE is a satellite, Advanced Composition Explorer. ACE is operational and continues to supply data. ACE data is widely available online, in various types of formats and simulations though none are as pretty as NICT. NICT is a Japanese organization... "National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), an incorporated administrative agency..." The group in charge of the simulation... "Simulation Team, Space Environment Group, Applied Electromagnetic Research Center National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT)" The NICT realtime magnetosphere simulation website site is down because ________? As suggested, GLP overloaded their servers? Changes are being made to software program used to process the ACE data? Operators of the website are pissed that their software (the MHD model) is being dissed by some in the industry for being inaccurate? Forgot to pay their monthly ACE data bill? The supercomputer used to process the simulation software is busy being used in that little reactor coverup, uh, cleanup, operation? I'm guessing this been done previously on this thread but does anyone feel like listing the available alternatives to the NICT simulation and/or ACE data? Thanks... -- |

Sunday, March 18 “Severe space weather” poses a threat to communications systems, electronic circuits and power grids, the list said. Solar storms — eruptions of magnetic energy and charged particles — are part of the sun’s normal 11-year cycle, which is expected to reach a peak next year. The storms can’t hurt people, but can disturb electric grids, GPS systems and satellites. In 1989, a strong solar storm knocked out the power grid in Quebec, cutting electricity to 6 million people. Last week, the strongest solar storm since 2004 passed without major disruptions. Last month, Parliament’s defense committee called on the government to prepare for disruptions to electrical supplies and satellites from electromagnetic pulses — whether caused by the sun or by a nuclear weapon exploded in space....
