SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

Good morning all...took the day off yesterday so i`m playing catch up..picked 400 more morels yesterday then went and got 55 crappie..wow what a day..

You are truly amazing TG1, the SDO photos look like a lot of static to me. PLEASE keep us posted on what you interpret, because I am at the mercy of their analysis at best.

OMG! Check out the magnetic complexity of old SS1429 as you can see it just on the limb. I can't wait!

CACTus recorded two Type III halo CMEs within 4 hours. Both were generally from the NE; one on 3/26 @ 2312z and the second @ 0412z on the 27th.

There were actually 4 in rapid succession. There was a CME associated with a large flare off the E limb from old Region 1429 at approx 2012 Mar 26 @ 22:49 UTC with a type II and IV radio sweep. This was followed immediatley by a filament ejection from the NE limb @23:58 UTC. Less then 3 hours later @ 2:50 UTC March 27, there was a large Earth directed CME ejected from Region 1444 during a C5.3 Sf, and then @ 12:59 UTC there was an ejection from near Region 1445. The majority of the material from 1429 is not Earth directed and the majority of the material from the filament looks to have gone north of the polar cap. If you watch the SDO images from 2:57 untill it blacks out around 06:28 UT on the 27th you will see all the material being ejected from Region 1444.

These are great for showing the separation between these two major events. The first one shows the CME from old region 1429 off the E limb, the filament ejection is so close to the same time that it gets caught up with this image. The second one shows the CME from Region 1444. It takes about 30 min to an hour for the CME to appear from around the disk depending on the ejection speed. As you can see the C5.3 flare from region 1444 started at 2:50 UTC on the 27th.

Very good!!

An Earth-directed CME detected from the southern solar hemisphere. It may be from a two-ribbon eruption southeast of AR1445. There's been very few flares and the largest was a C1.1 from 1444 in the north. There are many small filaments (and a few big ones) on the visible disk, so it'll take some time to confirm the source of this CME. However, it does seem well-positioned to be geo-effective.

SOHO "near-realtime images" haven't updated in 10 hours! A Carrington-type flare would be half-way to Earth by now. CME on its way doesn't look big this time and may or may not be geo-effective....jes' sayin'.

The Behemoth (AR1429) is soon to return. I don't expect it be as powerful as the last rotation, but it's been spitting out flares and CMEs all the way around. We'll see what's left of it in a day or two.
