Anonymous Coward User ID: 11198416 Germany 04/19/2012 07:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks IWTB! As an old fart(39.75...not 40 yet) Pluto will always be number 9. But this Neptune thing kinda stunned me. Personally I think NOAA/NASA should understand our planet (it is still a planet I hope) before downgrading our celestial neighbors. LOL Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5002507 wow, thx^^ |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11198416 Germany 04/19/2012 08:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like 1462 is the culprit, so what was going on in 1455 region ?? Was that the "extra kick" we saw on GOES ?? Quoting: TS66 [link to www.lmsal.com] haha nice catch, thats not the first time that lmsal is wrong I bet they will change this soon :) here's the laetst AIA 131 Close up : [link to helioviewer.org] AIA 131 Fulldisc: [link to helioviewer.org] |

HA! We'll have to see, I certainly didn't see the flare at 1462 0n EVE. Time you went and applied for a job there IWTB. IF their egos allow it ;) |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 14694563 United States 04/19/2012 08:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So IWTB, what happens if you have 2 flares kick off at once ?? Is there a way to distinguish their separate intensities ? I've seen it here before, but I don't think I've ever really thought about before. (PSSST ~ They just changed it [link to www.lmsal.com] |

Is there a way to distinguish their separate intensities ? Quoting: TS66 I've seen it here before, but I don't think I've ever really thought about before. Nice one, good question Well at first a solar Flare is a eruption of intense high-energy radiation (LIGHT) from the sun's surface and will reach the earth very fast in about 8MIN And we also know if a flare took place it doesnt mean it ejects a cme but it could be. So i guess if there are 2strong flares take place in a short time it could trigger or ejects more material But i know this was not your question in all...but i believe that severall flares in a short time can show up more intensity yep (more high energy/radiation will be released) All activity we notice in the GOES X-ray flux chart effects us. The last flare from 1455 which rotates off yesterday is avery nice example. There was also a nice bigger flare a time ago on the farside and we notice this here in flux. LMSAL was confused and could not find any location at the end..they find it^^ So if the location had a bit more earth boundary it would be much higher sry for my bad ass english tried to write without this damn translator crap :) |

Your English is wonderful, and NEIN, you don't want to hear my German ;) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 5002507 United States 04/19/2012 11:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks Rev! Glad to see I'm not the only old fart! IWTB off topic but... Is Holsten(?) still a German beer? In me army days (1990) I used to keep a sixer in my desk drawer. Never have had a beer so tasty that did not need to be chilled. Us Yankees are finally (trying to)put good taste to beer. Maybe now that Budweiser is Belgian it might, but not holding my breath. Not trying to derail but....beer and stargazing do go hand in hand. Well, in Georgia beer and anything go together! I digress.... |

It said the moon Chiron was discovered by a brewery owner who funded his observatory with his beer profits. Can't remember the blokes name tho, I was drunk when I saw it, lol. Cheers! I'd like a dunkel, please. Last Edited by Hugh M Eye on 04/19/2012 12:10 PM |

Hugh M Eye User ID: 14677923 United States 04/19/2012 12:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Lots of activity on the Sun right now. AR1462 seems to be gaining in strength and it's magnetically interacting with 1463. In some the SDO movies they seem to be firing phasers at each other. A new active region has sprung up due north of 1460; also a small spot appeared between 1461 and 1460, and another small slpot near the SW limb. Recent HMII: [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] I noticed a weird bubble of magnetism near the equator above 1463. I'm not exactly sure what caused this, but it may be a precursor to another soon-to-emerge active region. It's easier to see in the vids, but appears as a blue canopy in this AIA composite.
