Congress just came close to giving NOAA's satellites to NASA, but the Obama Admin. stepped in and torpedoed the effort. This is a good example of NOAA being asleep at the wheel (again). They're busy buying drones to track seals in AK, lol. NASA should be running all space operations and then share the data w/NOAA's glorified weathermen.



I see no signs of a proton storm yet, though it's a possibility. STEREO A will probably feel the brunt of this CME. This is an extremely large-sized eruption!

Oops, by the time I typed my post the protons are flyin' all over the place. Now I have proton-egg on my face, haha. Nice call there, Spittin', are you psychic? I did check with ACE and NOAA and SOHO BEFORE I began typing. If this flare happened a few days ago, I'd be at the 24-hr. Walmart too. If we're getting that much "snow" on the SOHO C2, then this CME is already geoeffective.

Nah, that's just a running average correction from when they shifted all the preliminary data down. :)

if you open the 2 in seperate tabs, and toggle between the 2, you can clearly see the flare was stronger at 02:01

Another interesting piece to the May 20th puzzle? Assuming that it takes that long to get here... hmmm. Just speculating

The ACE satellite ALSO had a data gap at the time of the flare! After came back @2:45, the high-energy protons had jumped two levels.
