Goes 15 HP under 0? What does it mean?
 Quoting: Vita 15928393

In short, it means a geomagnetic storm is in progress. The GOES 15 is now on the dayside and is being affected by the solar wind's magnetic field leaking into geosynchronus orbit. Here's the NOAA explanation:

The Hp component is perpendicular to the satellite orbit plane and Hp is essentially parallel to Earth's rotation axis. If these data drop to near zero, or less, when the satellite is on the dayside it may be due to a compression of Earth's magnetopause to within geosynchronous orbit, exposing satellites to negative and/or highly variable magnetic fields. On the nightside, a near zero, or less, value of the field indicates strong currents that are often associated with substorms and an intensification of currents in the Earth's geomagnetic tail.

Several FM radio stations I listen to went blank, no static, nothing. Three to be exact all from different home companies. Do you think its connected?
 Quoting: shadasonic

Not if it's a local station spinning records or whatever; but possibly, if they're broadcasting a satellite feed. Here's a good website with current radio propagation forecasts-

Hughe/ Nin the first uptick was a filament eruption on the 12th @ 1800 utc plus or minus. It was centered around where 1504 sets now may be 15 degrees north, I saw it leave from Gong and Hughe you were away or working per what you said online.

So the second impulse maybe 1st CME now we wait for the third and bigger pulse. It seems to work out mathematically.

Thanks Hughe, Nin you do a wonderfull thing. Time/Space

You're very observant there, AC! I was afraid to bring that one up today, hehheh. It's true that NASA had 3 CME arrivals listed for the 16th, but two of them were only minutes apart. The 12th was along time ago by CME standards, so it was most likely of little effect or was swallowed up by the oncoming M-flare CMEs.

This geomagnetic storm seems to be winding down now, but it may not be over yet. If the Bz dips negative and the magnetotail discharges we may see more storm levels.

When SOHO updated, filling in the data gaps, we can see a density spike up near 115 counts/cu. cm. That's a respectable CME.

We can see the whole day play out on the 24-hr. magnetopause simulation and see how the magnetosphere compressed into the geosynchronus satellite orbit several times:

Close to 12" over on rainfall by may of last year, most western and upper Mo. river basins flooded. Then we started the whole transition with the hottest july on record 14 days over 100 deg., with only 1.25" of rain over a four month period. Then this winter hit, soil temps avg. out at 39 deg., 11deg. above normal, 93 deg. temps in march! Crazy weather!!!!!
