SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

AR 1504 is still a threat for large flares.

It's been a long while since we've seen the northern hemisphere so quiet and almost devoid of sunspots. I think we're entering the long-anticipated shift in activity to the southern hemisphere. These magnetic field fluctuations are slowly intensifying and the heliographic map shows more southern active regions soon approaching the limb.

SOHO shows some mass flowing out near the large streamer in the SW. Possibly a chunk of that big filament has lifted off just beyond the west limb.
