Since the M2.4 flare we've seen 8 C-flares in 15 hours. These were all from regions 1513 & 1515.

X THREE MILLION: On the Richter Scale of Solar Flares, X3 is considered to be a big explosion. How about X3 million? NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has seen what happens when a planet gets hit by such a flare. This artist's concept, released today by the space agency, illustrates the impact of an X3000000-class stellar flare on exoplanet HD 189733b [link to www.spaceweather.com] The flare, detected by NASA's Swift satellite, scorched the top of the planet's atmosphere with a powerful blast of ultraviolet radiation and X-rays. Hours later, Hubble detected more than 1,000 tons of gas every second flying away at 300,000 mph. HD 189733b is a gas giant about 14% more massive than Jupiter, so it hardly misses the atmosphere it lost. Millions of years of these flares, however, will eventually make a dent even in such a massive world. So the next time there's an X-flare here in the solar system, just remember, it could be worse.

this last M flare of this morning was from 1515
and we have the possibly of even haveing a X in the comming days from one of these 3 sunspot groups
all depends on how they progress in their growth or if they begin to decay

well, the M2.2 from this morning....
solarsoft is calling it came from 1513
when looking on SDO with the green filter (so flares are easier to see) i see it come from 1515

we can see a lot of C sized flares popping out of 1513
but the sig for this mornings M flare came out of 1515 in the southeastern area

anyone else seeing what im seeing?

Have you noticed any kind of patterning happening in the eruption rates NiN? I mean, I know there are quiet periods with nothing, but,...I am not present enough to notice any order out of the chaos...do you see any quickening in eruption rates or interesting order in sun events?

Hello, NINzrez! We missed you.hfbanana2

SDO is showing "no images available" for that time period Weird. However, the Solarsoft SDO close-up movie of the last M-flare does look to be from 1513.

[link to sdowww.lmsal.com]

Regardless, AR1515 has produced 2 CMEs (from the 2 C6 flares I imagine). This H-alpha movie loop shows the activity from approximately 03:00-12:00 UTC:

[link to halpha.nso.edu]

I think 1515 is going to be the biggest threat for large flares and CMEs in the coming week. Although 1513 looks bigger and brighter in the EUV images, AR1515 looks brighter in the EVE X-Ray images. If this region is still growing, we may be looking at a real whopper. Here's the latest HMI magnetogram:

[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

Here's a SOHO C3 image of a CME from 1515:

[link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov]

I've seen signs of another CME from this region but SOHO & SDO images aren't available at present. Here's a STEREO B C2 movie:

 Quoting: shadasonic

We've seen these sunspot groups before (except for 1512 which we just witnessed being born). AR1513 is on its 3rd rotation! Originally the Monster 1476 and then 1493/96 on the last rotation; so we've already seen many strong M-flares from this region in the past 2 months.

In the south, I believe regions 1514 (decaying) and 1515 (growing) were #'s 1497 and 1494 respectively on the last rotation. As you can see from this image, 1515 has grown considerably from a single alpha spot since early June.

Here's a Spaceweather.com archive page from June 4th.

[link to www.spaceweather.com]

On the 27-day plots we can see the large increase in X-ray events when this side of the Sun is Earth-facing. Almost all of this activity was from what is now called 1513. With the 2 latest M-flares, I think we can safely say this region still has potency; however, I'm hoping and expecting to see the southern hemisphere begin to pick up the pace soon. (I know I've been saying this for months now,LOL).
