Wait..what, what, what??? I see that ominous split in the sun. Does that have anything to do with it? Explain, pwease! We've been observing a giant arc of plasma connecting regions 1513 & 1515 for a week now and I just noticed the connection has snapped today. Here's what it looked like before- :shields up: Does that mean more intense solar wind? Hello, Starry,  Probably not here at Earth as this region is no longer facing Earth. This loop's breaking point seems to correspond with the time of that huge ACE proton spike NINz posted. [ link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] It also may have something to do with the strong CME launched 5 hours after the M6.9 event. :cme7/8: I haven't seen any analysis or models yet of this later CME; so it's possible some of this plasma could be Earth-directed. In that case it WOULD affect the solar wind at Earth. We may know more in a few hours or when NASA wakes up tomorrow morning, haha.
