I'm really not feeling better at all. I actually decided to take some dayquil. I never take medicine unless I'm really, really sick. Every 10 minutes I take my zip up hoodie off and then put it back on. I think my youngest daughter is starting to show signs of being sick. She has been really irritable since last night.

Here are two noobee questions.....1)on the X-ray flux graphs, what does the blue line on the bottom represent ?(I always seem to watch only the red line). 2) why do we seem to make B Class flares seem like they are totally inconsequential? I've been watching 1125 and she's thrown out three nice little B flares. I assume they still impact earth's atmoshpere, right?

At the bottom of the GOES chart is following explanation:

The GOES X-ray flux plot contains 1 minute averages of solar X-rays in the 1-8 Angstrom (0.1-0.8 nm) and 0.5-4.0 Angstrom (0.05-0.4 nm) passbands. Data from the SWPC Primary GOES X-ray satellite is shown.

Passbands are signals of a range of frequencies or wavelengths that measure x-ray flux.

We use the 1-8 Angstrom (0.1-0.8 nm)of the GOES X-ray flux chart to measure the size of a flare.

A flare whether an A,B,C,M or X's impact on earth is only as great as the size and intensity of the CME (coronal mass ejection)it may or may not produce, not necessarily the size or category of that particular flare.

That being said, it is not "typical" ( nor have I witnessed ) that a B flare would or could produce the same size CME as an M, or X flare is capable of producing. So yes a B flare can and does impact the earth's magnetosphere, again depending on the size and intensity of the CME it produces, however, chances are slim to none it would ever result in a CME as large as a C, M, or X flare, so we tend to not pay as close attention.

This "Absorption' chart is acting up again, showing only green and blue.
But no longer all black - and why? What is causing a proton presence?
