Nin....I am so sorry for your sadness and more specifically that of your son and his wife. Loosing a child quickly without warning is a sorrow that cannot compare to any other.

Movies of erupting CMEs from SDO/AIA were used in the new music video by the band Dispatch - "Circles Around the Sun"! You can see the video here [link to www.youtube.com] which was filmed mostly at the VLA and uses a lot of historic NASA footage and movies of the aurora filmed from the ISS. After the flare that 66 graciously pointed out earlier (thanks!), all the dials and charts, bells and whistles seem to have quieted.

The TEC is hitting light orange in both Africa and a little bit of South America.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with my local weather...

I don't have 'normal' sleep patterns, so when I woke up at 5am (after going to sleep at 3am), I figured that I'd try to catch Mercury in the pre-dawn hours. I grab a coffee and my pipe and sit gazing at the horizon and Venus to await Mercury's rising. Sure enough, as soon as I notice the very first perceptible lightening of the sky...durn clouds rush in as if on cue. *mutters*

So, a mild rain blocked my view, did anyone else catch a glimpse??

as we are starting to connect the TEC to the sun / earth/ earth movements....
i have been always very interested in the how's and why's of Lightning.
growing up in the corn fields i have seen show much lightning and some as close as one can get still be able to tell the story.
i have felt the charge build on the ground....i mean really...if you are in the close area where the ground strike will happen you do become part of the ground charge. (note during a T storm if you ever feel like your hair is standing up or tingling.....run and freaking fast, anywhere.)

now this being said i also now electricity traverses from the - to the +...not how we would draw it on paper...

As the negative charges collect at the bottom of the cloud it forces the negative charges in the ground to be forced away from the surface. This leaves the ground positive.
A streamer of negative charges is repelled by the bottom of the cloud and attracted by the ground.
As this streamer of negative charges approaches the ground, a streamer of positive charges is repelled by the ground and attracted to the negative streamer.
When the two streamers connect, they have created a fairly conductive path which allows a sudden down surge of electrons to jump to the ground. This is the lightning.
The rapidly moving electrons excite the air along the path so much that it emits light. It also heats the air so intensely that it rapidly expands creating thunder.
One thing to notice is that the positive charges that make up both the cloud and the ground do not move. Even the positive streamer launched by the ground is really only made up of positively charged air particles because the electron(s) left the particle.

and the actual strike comes from the ground up.

now i feel the electrons comes from the ground but most research says no....either way the ground strike or flash comes from the earth up.



now looking on a bigger scale. and with a hell of a lot of speculation!

what if the sun is not the root cause for the EQ or what ever, but the earth it self has a change in charge around that area....like an infection turns red and is hotter in our body....
so the lets say this infection on the earth actually is pulling the energies from the sun bringing the TEC higher?

what if the build up around a fault line can create the same kind of area on the ground like under a thunder storm, which pulls the energies from the sun in....if just right. blam! sudden release and the fault moves.

this is just a thought and needs more looking but......


i also wonder if this could apply to there being direct connection to our sun....then there could be connections to all the planets.
and if the area of charge on the planet gets so strong....look what happened to Mars!

This would/could explain why the TEC seems to always be higher over land.

I have lived in the southeast on and off for about half of my life and I am familiar with that 'charged' feeling. It is instinctual to remove oneself from said situation...it is almost a panic feeling.

You have turned on my 'ponder' for the day.

I assume you are speaking of the TEC maps that get posted and I agree. There is a definite similarity between the TEC maps and cloud cover/water vapor maps.

I have not been able to find a correlation between the two.
