I was reading back a couple pages and noticed everyone was concerned about the integrity of the magnetosphere last night. I'm looking at the streamer now, and I'm not seeing anything of concern, no penetration of the field ??? Was it hot within the field ?? Looks pretty stable from 11:00 UTC 8/19 till now, what were you guys referring to ?? [link to iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080] |

I think we were hit with solar winds from the coronal hole last night. Wind speed, density and temp were up, and it was anticipated if I remember correctly. Unless they changed the streamer, it looks like the field held up pretty well, no penetration. Gives me a little more confidence that it can hold up to the bigger stuff [link to www.solarham.net] |

I think the only difference being, you can see more of the "tail" of the field with this simulation. It certainly looks intimidating, but NICT used to "freak" me out a little with their sims too. I remember looking at it as a big jumbled mess as a big CME approached, thinking, "ok, open your wings now !!!" LOL This is good example, maybe not the best, but it gives you a good idea for those who have never seen it. [link to www.youtube.com] |

There would be thread after thread about how our magnetosphere was gone when in reality it was doing exactly what it was supposed to do, man I miss Nict. I wasn't worried so much about the damage as the fact that we were in a pretty puny CH wind and that simulation acted way to distressed for the situation. We are starting to store alot of subatomic particles and our lines are reacting to the simplest solar energy. I believe theres a big decline in our cores electrodynamic signature. I'm not worried as much about the sun as I am the earth! Have a good day all, its nice to have you here TS, you make me think, ouch! lol “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle.
