An interesting excerpt, I thought, from the book "Exploring Space, Exploring Earth: New Understanding of the Earth from Space Research" by Paul D. Lowman, ex head NASA Geologist.

"I think this is a mistake. We now know, from space exploration,
that bodies essentially similar to the Earth in composition and struc-
ture have developed differentiated crusts, mountain belts, rift valleys,
and volcanos without plate tectonics, in fact without plates.
Furthermore, we now know, thanks partly to remote sensing from
space, that the Earth’s crust can not realistically be considered a
mosaic of 12 discrete rigid plates. "

As a 10 year old, I lay on my sofa watching this man step out of the Apollo and step on the moon. I had BAAAAD mumps and couldn't move but my dad took several Polaroids off the t.v. of this landing and I still have them. My love of science started because of old Neil.

i relise this is a little of topic, but

i was wondering what you views or anyone elses views are about the moon, and if that is the problem why the planet wobbles, i think what i mean to say is, if something is out of balance like a car wheel when the tire man bangs those weights on your wheel so it spins without a shudder, well if the moon is stuck in the earths magnetic field, its causing the earth to wobble, therfore every year everything dies, the plants die, the animals hibinate, animals and birds have to make a huge effort to change country, and seas, women bleed, maybe we hav'nt been told the truth about the moon, because the way i see it, as if it wasnt there things would be balanced and there would be no shudder,things would be back to normal. maybe we should have no waves, and the mexican loop current, and the oceans conveyor belts should do the job quite ok by themselves,

then we would'nt need so many of the nasty creatures to clean the mess up every year, eg preditors flys crabs,

i ask this and i know it sounds crazy, but our magnetic field might be , lets say FULL strength if it was'nt there, and there would be no gravity abnormalitys.
