I didn't go all the way through, they were small and I couldn't get a good look at the connfigurations(lost some hair too!! LOL)

When I use the SDO site [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

I always use the 4096 resolution, then click to enlarge the particular SS I want to view. It provides an incredibly detailed view (like the one above).

Well I sure hope it gives up more of a show than what it has so far then LOL

So if you stuck a big conductor/filament between these two (or they touched) boom.

ie red=positive, black=negative, (blue is pertyer)

I'm so far beneath these guys it's rediculus. but.
My background is 9 yr USAF Electronic Warfare and 6 yr civ.
Electrons flow toward protons. If there is no resistance between them, they explode to the extent of the least powerful of the two. This can be acheived by a wire, or filament. Plumbing works in a similar fashion.
Electromagnotism is like bringing a 3rd dimension into the picture. This shit with the sun and the earth is even more mind boggling (a 4th diminsion, perhaps). On this thread I'm a 2 dimensional guy in a 4 dimension world. What a THRILL!

Well, you're light years ahead of me, I'm just getting a grasp on 2D myself. 3D, (AKA reality lol), sometimes scares me a little.

I'm sure if you hang here for a while we'll eventually have a much better understanding

theusner.eu gets it's kp readings from the official kp index at potsdam (which i linked in my post). yeah the potsdam kp index is based on by far the most comprehensive global network of magnetometers.

noaa's kp estimate is also based on an international network, as is USAF's kp estimate. potsdam's network is just way bigger and more widespread, which makes sense since it is the official keeper of the Kp index.

although at the end of the day i prefer DST over Kp, myself! : )

well we are not being hit yet.
with voltage flowing and the Bz just about full south. IMF is starting to push hard keeping Bz south.
if we were hit with a plasma mass now that field band would not look as nice as it does now....
we are not it....
we are just PRIMED for a bad time!

I'm watching the incoming but more concerned about what, say, 1560 can do if our shields are down.
A good spurt can hit us in 18 hours.

The Phi plot is a compass-based coordinate...001-360 degrees. So there is no negative Phi.

What is strange is the PCA on global D, but then again Bz is really south and we are vulnerable. It's just not apparent on the streamer.
