Quoting: shadasonic 1560 will for now be known as TSs BGD SS I didn't go all the way through, they were small and I couldn't get a good look at the connfigurations(lost some hair too!! LOL) When I use the SDO site [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] I always use the 4096 resolution, then click to enlarge the particular SS I want to view. It provides an incredibly detailed view (like the one above). Well I sure hope it gives up more of a show than what it has so far then LOL |
AkivaJeff User ID: 19183578 United States 09/02/2012 08:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That was quick, thanks mods Quoting: TS66 Ok Shada, please tell me, because I hate not understanding this, why the area I have circled is not a BGD. TIA :penumbra3: Well in my eyes that is BGD, you've got both polarities, no discernible division between them and the penumbra has enclosed the umbrae= BGD Exactly, that's the latest shot from SDO ... OK so now at least I feel like I have a clue, and 1560 is a BGD, thank you so much Shada Yeah looking at it that close seems cut and dried, good pic and good investigating! So if you stuck a big conductor/filament between these two (or they touched) boom. ie red=positive, black=negative, (blue is pertyer) Last Edited by AkivaJeff on 09/02/2012 08:55 PM Life is short... Quoting: TS66 I'm so far beneath these guys it's rediculus. but. My background is 9 yr USAF Electronic Warfare and 6 yr civ. Electrons flow toward protons. If there is no resistance between them, they explode to the extent of the least powerful of the two. This can be acheived by a wire, or filament. Plumbing works in a similar fashion. Electromagnotism is like bringing a 3rd dimension into the picture. This shit with the sun and the earth is even more mind boggling (a 4th diminsion, perhaps). madajs User ID: 6377684 Canada 09/02/2012 09:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like we just reached a 4. Quoting: TS66 ALERT: Geomagnetic K-index of 4 Threshold Reached: 2012 Sep 02 2305 UTC Synoptic Period: 2100-2400 UTC Active Warning: Yes Potential Impacts: Area of impact primarily poleward of 65 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude. Induced Currents - Weak power grid fluctuations can occur. Aurora - Aurora may be visible at high latitudes such as Canada and Alaska. To add to this, the official kp index at potsdam showing a Kp 5 [link to www-app3.gfz-potsdam.de] DST staying around -30 [link to wdc.kugi.kyoto-u.ac.jp] definitely a storm going on right now, although still weak (for now) let's see if it picks up more in the next 24 hours! I believe this is the one where they get an average from around the world. [link to www.theusner.eu] theusner.eu gets it's kp readings from the official kp index at potsdam (which i linked in my post). yeah the potsdam kp index is based on by far the most comprehensive global network of magnetometers. noaa's kp estimate is also based on an international network, as is USAF's kp estimate. potsdam's network is just way bigger and more widespread, which makes sense since it is the official keeper of the Kp index. although at the end of the day i prefer DST over Kp, myself! : ) And always, he fought the temptation to choose a clear, safe course, warning: "That path leads ever down into stagnation." |
