SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

Cool pic, TS66. It's as if each of these spots has a personality, as if they are speaking to us in some way. A strange conversation in which we can't quite participate. I wonder if the sun has a consciousness. I know that's probably crazy talk. But I can't help but wonder.

Inanimate it or not, conscience or not, it's telling us it's secrets, and we are just not capable of understanding.

There may come a day when we predict flares like a storm coming in ahead of a cold front. We just have to watch and learn.

Fall Eclipse Season has Begun
Today was the beginning of the Fall 2012 eclipse season. This image in AIA 171 shows that the Earth covered about half of the Sun this morning at 0700 UTC.
With the SDO geosynchronous orbit comes an eclipse season twice each year. They last for several weeks; this will end on September 26 (just in time for our next maneuver).

On 2nd September 2012, Krakatau resumed activity following an increase in seismic activity. Strombolian and Vulcanian explosions had occured during 2-3 September and lava had flowed 600m from the summit to the sea. The crater rim was reported to have been split in two parts. Explosive activity stopped during 4-5 September but the lava flows continued. Apparently, the lava flows have weakened since today.

NASA has made no such prediction. Someone posted a poop-filled bogus fact-less article a few days back; with no NASA citations nor heliophysicists named or quoted. Just the usual internet claptrap claims which didn't pass the smell test. I truly try to ignore all of this garbage, but somehow it takes on a life of its own (a la Comet Elenin). This report was total fiction.
Anyone who's been around this thread for more than a week knows that GLP Solar Watch is usually ahead of NASA, NOAA, and Spaceweather.com (let alone the mass media) when it comes to reporting Solar flares/events. I've even sent emails to freedland at Solarsoft pointing out errors and omissions on their site. It's not possible for NASA to predict a solar flare an hour from now, let alone months in advance. The idea is absolutely preposterous.

ALSO, NASA has never had a mission to a black hole, miniature or otherwise (or I would've heard about it). It is theorized that mini-black-holes are atom-sized and pass through the Earth daily. I haven't done enough research in this to know much more; however, I'm skeptical until more data comes my way.

I hope people will continue to share solar underground research and alternative theories. I believe in quite a few alternative theories myself.

Another misunderstood term tossed about these days is the "LOCAL FLUFF". What is it really?

The Local Fluff is a goofy nickname for the Local Interstellar Cloud (LIC) which lies within the larger Local Bubble. The "Fluff" is made up of a diffuse, highly- magnetized cloud of Hydrogen and Helium atoms.

What does this have to do with our Sun?

"The Solar System is thought to have entered the Local Interstellar Cloud at some time between 44,000 and 150,000 years ago and is expected to remain within it for another 10,000 to 20,000 years. The cloud has a temperature of about 6000 K,[2] about the same temperature as the surface of the Sun. It is not very dense, with 0.3 atoms per cubic centimeter; less dense than the average for the interstellar medium in the Milky Way (0.5 atoms/cm³)."

Whatever effect, if any, the local Fluff has on the Sun, it's been in effect for at least 44,000 years! No need to lose sleep over this, OK?

But can it affect the Earth?

You see, the Sun and Solar System lie within the Fluff Cloud but the Fluff itself is on the outside of the heliospheric bubble created by the Solar winds. Picture a scenario similar to the magnetosphere's bubble of protection from the Solar plasma streaming past Earth.

The real concern here will be in thousands of years when the Sun leaves the Local Fluff and may enter another cloud of denser, possibly more volatile material. But the Earth may not even be supportive of life by that time. Interesting stuff to ponder, but nothing to worry about.

My final point of clarification this morning concerns the so-called "RIBBON". The "Ribbon" is a nickname given to an anomalous signature of Energetic Neutral Atoms (ENAs) detected near the interstellar boundary of the heliosphere. The detection was made by the IBEX spacecraft (in Earth orbit) while mapping the composition of the outer heliosphere where it encounters the interstellar/galactic winds (or Fluff) surrounding our Solar System.



This ribbon is an energy signature, not a physical object. The findings took researchers by surprise and it's still pretty much a mystery. It may be related somehow to the intense magnetic fields within the Local Interstellar Cloud (Fluff). Adding to the puzzle, the energy signature (or ribbon, as they call it) has been observed to fluctuate over a short period of time.

Just to be clear, the "Ribbon" is not a "thing" or "object". It's just a name given to a data set projected onto a heliospheric map and indicative of an unexplained (so far) energy fluctuation at the interstellar boundary. It's not moving into the Solar system or flying around somewhere in outer space. Think of it as an AURORA sparking up around the outer bubble of the sun's heliosphere. It may in fact be something similar on a much bigger scale.

Not that that object looks like a CME to me IMHO, I checked out SDO, and although there are a lot of flaying filaments in the west from the equator up, I'm not seeing any major eruptions (or even atypical movements) that would cause anything like that at 9:40 UTC

Wait, Are there any links about a probe 25 years ago to a mini black hole? Aren't any black holes, mini or otherwise, so far away that it would take like 25,000 years to get there? I mean, voyager probes were launched in the 70s and they are just getting to the edge of just our solar system now. The proble to a mini black hole doesn't seem possible by today's technology.?.

And is there a link for the solar warning that NASA put out over a year ago about a Sept 21 solar warning?
