Quoting: Hugh M Eye Still twists my brain :) it does mine, too. This is one that I have pretty much left to 'it just is' as I have never gotten an explanation that made bells ring for me. When it rises...the northern limb will be facing our north pole and the southern limb facing our south pole. Due to rotational directions of both bodies, the eastern limb will be facing our eastern horizon and the western limb facing our western horizon. This is about the most basic explanation and for some reason, it still doesn't sit quite right in my mind... So, it's a mirror.  Still an intersting topic.
