Dapurps User ID: 26604792 Canada 12/12/2012 03:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Do I understand correctly....When the poles reverse, that indicates that the solar max has been reached? I know the pole reversal is normal but I didn't realize that indicates the max has been reached. Quoting: shenue Hi Shenue, Yes I believe that is correct. However, I would like for Madjas or Nin to confirm. Hope you are doing well. Much Love, Traditionally solar max refers to the sunspot count, not the magnetic poles. Obviously the two are very related, but sunspot max and pole reversal don't occur at the exact same time. I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with accuweather for stating max has been reached, whichever definition they are using. I don't think we've reached sunspot max, and I know the poles haven't finished reversing. :) Please Please Please be true. Solar max can't possibly be over. Feels like it hasn't even started. Anyhoo' [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] looks pretty wild : ) Hey, C.. Interested to see any information on these pulses. Thanks for all y'all do.. Sun crew is on it.. like a duck on a junebug.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 9038715 United States 12/12/2012 04:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's not over until the fat lady sings: Quoting: TS66 November 26, 2012 "NOAA scientists are on high alert as the Sun enters a period of solar maximum over the next 14 months during which we will see a burst of activity that could have catastrophic effects on global power grids and communications systems." "Scientists point to "The Carrington Event," named after British astronomer Richard Carrington, who observed it. The Carrington Event was a major solar flare that hit the Earth in 1859, shortly after the Sun reached solar maximum at a time in which the telegraph provided the only advanced global communication system."
