Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24 hours. Several
C-class events were observed with the largest event of the period being
a C1 flare from Region 1629 (N13W88). SDO imagery show the rapid
emergence of Region 1632 (N19W84) between Regions 1631 (N23W75) and
1629. This rapid growth suggests enhanced flare potential from this
active sunspot region complex.
In the southeast, Region 1633 (S07E41)
has shown some growth in the leader spot location, in both size and
complexity, however very little flare activity has been observed. A yet
to be numbered active region is beginning to rotate into view, around
N10E90. STEREO behind EUVI imagery suggests that this new region is
active and should rotate into full view in the next 36 hours.
No Earth
directed CMEs were observed in the past 24 hours. A large filament
structure was observed lifting off the northwest quadrant of the solar
disk around 17/1700 UTC. LASCO C2 and C3 imagery indicated an associated
CME with this event, however imagery indicates the ejecta was directed
north of the ecliptic.

.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected be at low levels with a slight chance for
M-class flares for the next three days (Dec 18, Dec 19, and Dec 20). The
active region complex just off the northwest limb, including Region
1632, 1631 and 1629 is expected to start to rotate off the visible disk
as a new region rotates onto the east limb.

The new region mentioned is just now peeking over the limb. It looks like a potential Monster 2012 Doom Spot !Hopefully we'll see at least an M 4 or bigger flare. The latest HMI image doesn't show much as this whopper (1635?) is just on the very edge of the disk (not even a C-flare yet).
