In regards to a hidden flare, here's the GOES Xray chart for the 23rd, 24th, and 25th, and I don't see anything but small B class flares.

There was a filament eruption just around 5:45 UTC, at around mid disc, but nothing too significant.

You'd have to fudge A LOT of data to hide solar activity of any consequence IMO, an I have to believe that's not the case at least this time around.
