Both the Department Of Commerce (NOAA) and the Department Store of War (Lockheed Corp.) are once again proving they're lazy, overpaid buffoons. About the only event of note today was a B6 flare from AR1661. Here's the H-alpha movie: [link to halpha.nso.edu]

Pretty obvious right? Not if you're a golden parachuting gubbamint lackey. Lockheed Solarsoft missed it entirely- [link to www.lmsal.com]

And NOAA, who makes us crazy with their illogical numbering system, attributed the flare to the WRONG NUMBER active region.-

".24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was very low. The largest flare of the period was a B6
flare at 24/1621 UTC from Region 1662 (N28E42)
. Slight growth was
observed in the trailing spot of Region 1660 (N13W63).
.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected to be very low with a chance for C-class
flares for the forecast period (26-28 Jan)."

Also NOAA neglected to number two new AR's on the visible disk, so I'll give them a clue....haha.

AR1663 is a small alpha spot in the Southwest near S44W68. AR1664 in the east appears to be a growing Beta region close to the equator at S07E60. Please add these to the official sunspot number, hehe.
