Chain reaction....the first C8.7 w/ big CME destabilized the filament to the east which is most likely spawning another CME. Notice how the second filament liftoff caused a double-ribbon Hyder flare; whereas the first one was a standard flare which ejected a filament embedded in the active region. A nice example of two kinds of flares and two types of CME. The first event (C8.7 flare) was far more energetic and the CME seems extremely fast. Still waiting on SOHO and STEREO Ahead images.... GONG H-alpha loop: [ link to halpha.nso.edu]  Do you think there is any way that this recent sun activity and the 8+ quake we're related? No. There are plenty of earthquakes when nothing at all is happening with the sun. For the cause of undersea earthquakes it makes sense to me to look under the sea or inside the Earth's crust. It's been shown that peaks in EQ activity and solar activity have no correlation whatsoever, however pseudo-science marches on with this meme. Se la vie.
