A Russian health official says nearly 1,000 people have sought help for injuries caused by a meteor that exploded in the sky, blasting out countless windows. Chelyabinsk health chief Marina Moskvicheva, said Friday that 985 people in her city had asked for medical assistance. The Interfax news agency quoted her as saying 43 were hospitalized. The Russian Academy of Sciences said the meteor - estimated to be about 10 tons - entered the Earth's atmosphere going at least 54,000 kph (33,000 mph). It shattered about 30-50 kilometers (18-32 miles) above the ground, releasing several kilotons of energy above the Ural Mountains. Amateur video broadcast on Russian television showed an object speeding across the sky just after sunrise, leaving a thick white contrail and an intense flash.

What the heck is it doing ??? I just saw it drop at a 90* angle then head back up in the same screen ... no camera changes ???

I wish they would include velocity and distance ticker below, not having a reference point is frustrating.

On the chart on the x and y axes are the numbers. I remembered roughly how much it filled the graph and looked at the numbers on the axes.

I'm seeing now up over 1200 people. So sad.

Stupid question I'm sure, but why has the asteroid changed shape ???

i think it's more near earth now...

do you see this last image? We see several lines! This is a meteor shower!

Well if that's the case, it's either cylindrical in shape, or dragging a lot behind it

Its only supposed to get 27,700 km away and we've got 30 minutes left to closest approach, very interesting

It has lost more then half its speed in the past 15 minutes.

I just caught it and it appeared to be a Cylindrical Barrel type shape as YT user J7404 had imaged it a few Days ago,what shape is it supposed to be and what shape did you see 66?
