It looked like somehow the CHs was what fatty Filament had been swept up into,as many of the Bits'a'Filament have seemingly done in the last Week(ish).

Hyder Flare also from the region of 1671/1678 [link to halpha.nso.edu] though GOES X-Ray doesn't seem to be telling the same tale as what I am looking at [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] .

Well,this is quite interesting to watch [link to sdodata.oma.be] (aside from all the other action going on)the physical behaviour of the Filament is quite something,it really does appear to be sucking up in-toward the CHS [link to sdodata.oma.be] in a vortex fashion at the leading edge - Whatever it is that is going on there I am 90% sure it is due to the deep CH Below it.

Swapping to the Coronal 211 Angstroms we can see just how much instability there appears to be all over the Disc [link to sdodata.oma.be] I see at least 3 large disturbances that will have caused Mass Ejections.

On 304 [link to sdodata.oma.be] some really cool looking detonation like flaring from 1678/71 region!

I don't know why they were not registered above C Class on GOES X-Ray,but hey...Nevermind!

Since I can't respond to your observations with any intelligence, I'll just say this - After looking at all the videos, I'm glad I don't live there!

(Although I DID see the vortex-like action on the filament.)

AR1678 is fast becoming a monster spot. It looks bigger and stronger every time I look at it. Maybe soon we'll see it pop off a very strong flare.

Some serious growth and mixing around that region,the interaction with 1671 has made it a wonder we haven't seen a high C/low M Flare already from it.

Check out the splash like eruption around 1678/71 [link to sdodata.oma.be] surprised that didn't register at least a C2 on GOES,still though it looks very cool!

1678 is at least Beta-Gamma as of now from your image above Hugh.

I can see a few smaller Polarities inside each of the Spots,no doubt it'll blow one once it reaches the Western limb : )

Yep, I noticed those lightning bolts or sparks flickering for a while. Earth's magnetic footpoint is right near the western limb now, so we may see an SEP event if it ever goes off.

By the way, that giant filament seems to have disappeared from the surface. Surprisingly it produced no Hyder flare. May be a coronal rain or else a nice CME if it accelerates away from the corona.

I wonder if STEREO's lack of updates has anything to do with NASA's ISS communications troubles. Could Chinese hackers jam-up the entire inner solar system? Hahaha.

I just got this text alert from the 3D Sun app on my phone. It is a NASA app (take that for what it's worth).

Less than a day ago, sunspot AR1678 didn't exist. Now it's five times wider than our entire planet. NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the sunspot's rapid development.

Sunspots are islands of magnetism that float on the surface of the sun. This one is emerging from the depth and changing at such a rapid pace that its magnetic field is likely unstable. A reconnection event in AR1678's magnetic canopy could lead to a significant solar flare. Stay tuned!"

I swear, I have seen this app not show significant flares, and at the time I think they are hiding data. Then I see something like this alert, and think they are fear-mongering. No wonder we are all confused, even the 'experts' don't agree on our current Solar activities.

Very anticlimactic ..... just blew off to the West.

nice catch! judging by the wedge plot, looks like most of the CME is forecasted to miss us high. but these models aren't perfect and it's fun to see either way!

Filament went bye bye

You know how SLOW the CMEs are traveling like in syrup. If this filament did indeed release do you guys believe something is nullifying the electromagnetic force. Alittle bit of particle entropy. Think about it

Look how the filament went drifting west, right where our new sunspot 1678 exploded with energy today,something pulling energy that direction aye?

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was low. Region 1678 (N10W40,
Dai/beta-gamma-delta)produced a C2 x-ray flare at 19/1051 UTC and
isolated B-class flares. Region 1678 showed significant development in
spots and magnetic complexity including a delta magnetic configuration
within its intermediate spots. Region 1673 (S11E17, Dac/beta) showed
gradual intermediate spot growth during the period. Region 1675 (N12W09,
Cso/beta) continued to gradually decay. The remaining spotted regions
were unremarkable. An 8-degree filament centered near N26W09 erupted
around 19/0300 UTC. This eruption was associated with an Earth-directed
partial-halo coronal mass ejection (CME) with an estimated speed of 375
km/s. The bulk of the CME material appeared to be headed northward. A
large filament, roughly 35 degrees in extent and centered near S26E15,
erupted around 19/1900 UTC. Further analysis will be required to
determine the potential geoeffectiveness of this filament eruption.

In the SDO composite images you can still see that huge filament channel. I wouldn't be surprised to see another eruption from this region.

We just had another filament lift off the far west side, mid equator latitude

Also, I stumbled on this article about recent analysis of solar cycles' plasma flow-

When the plasma nears the poles it sinks, then flows back toward the equator. The latitude at which that sinking occurs turns out to be very important, according to findings from a recent study ...(snip)
Modulations in plasma flux and the flow of plasma speed might explain why the latest solar cycle, number 23, was longer than previous cycles, the researchers thought.
"Cycles 19, 20, 21 and 22 each lasted about 10.5 years," said Dikpati. "Cycle 23 lasted notably longer — 12.6 years."

What they did see is that incycles 20 to 22 the poleward flow reached about 60 degrees while in cycle 23, plasma flow apparently reached all the way to the pole. This could be the difference responsible for the differences between the cycles.

Thats good info, kinda what I was looking for. We could live a very long time and not figure out our star completely. I just want to know more than what I'm probably capable of handling.
