Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
Hello Folkshi

Thank you 66/Shada for showing what is causing this [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] with the links posted earlier, these [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] <--- Look at all that! [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] that clearly show our Planet being buffeted by a CME or twowink

I think we can look forward to yet more Magneto-Fraggle as the Magnetometer has yet to bottom out [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] quite impressive all things considered.

I cannot remember the plonkers(NASA/NOAA)predicting arrival,Solen - 'Forecast

The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet on February 25-28
' [link to www.solen.info] Hoo.k. : )

On this talk of 71 being the culprit for enhanced X-Rays - Is it not 1678 that just rotated the limb a few Days back that we can see here [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] broiling the lower Corona above it that is the true culprit!?

Anyhoo',I've not long been back in after spending the Afternoon in Hospital(I'm ok)and I am catching up on the Days activity - Plenty to be seen on EUVI [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] Action-aggaBaggaboo.

I'm a little frayed round the edges so excuse the scatty postsunhf

I don't see any geomagnetic disturbance whatsoever. The planetary K-index is at 1=quiet:
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Even the polar regions look quiet now:
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

ACE shows nominal wind velocity with some minor proton variations:
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Satellite environment all good:
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

No spaceweather warnings, alerts or notices:
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

When nothing happens folks start imagining things IMO.

So you don't see the CME on HI2 then Hugh?

Or the rising nT on the Magnetometer [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] that looks like action to me,wait for the drop.

Also the ACE Data when fed into the Mag. Sim. is showing this [link to ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov] .

True,true 66 : )

I thought I'd post this LPAC presentation on 'Le Grande Minimum' - I usually cannot stand these folks and to be honest I am surprised they managed to get all the way through without once mentioning 'Glass-Steagall' chuckle

It has some tid-bits of information that make it worth a watch/listen,most of which begins after the halfway mark -

[link to www.youtube.com]

Also there is this one too that I fell asleep listening to,the chap that made it seems to have a fair few things he wanted to get of his chest as the title of the video doesn't bear much reference to its content, allegory after allegory.

This is 'Super-Conspiracy' or Supiracy as I'll call it -

'Resistance is Futile' chuckle

[link to www.youtube.com]

So he doesn't quite make the case for the video title but he does drone on with some interesting little bits'a'infosun

The first video has some points worth noting where-as the second is a old mans rambling on about this and that with not much relation to the titlewink

Say we did get a MIA,we could avoid it by moving to the Equator - Though the rush for middle Earth would be a crush rush and a half!

I'd like to make it known that I am not saying we are entering a period similar to those of a MIA just pointing out some evidence that could be used to argue the possibility.

The declining overall Magnetic Fields of Sunspots in Recent Years is of particular relevance, seen here in Gauss [link to science.nasa.gov] Article [link to science.nasa.gov]

A Abstract of a Penn/Livingston Paper -

'Long-term Evolution of Sunspot Magnetic Fields
Matthew Penn, William Livingston
(Submitted on 3 Sep 2010)

Independent of the normal solar cycle, a decrease in the sunspot magnetic field strength has been observed using the Zeeman-split 1564.8nm Fe I spectral line at the NSO Kitt Peak McMath-Pierce telescope. Corresponding changes in sunspot brightness and the strength of molecular absorption lines were also seen. This trend was seen to continue in observations of the first sunspots of the new solar Cycle 24, and extrapolating a linear fit to this trend would lead to only half the number of spots in Cycle 24 compared to Cycle 23, and imply virtually no sunspots in Cycle 25.
We examined synoptic observations from the NSO Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope and initially (with 4000 spots) found a change in sunspot brightness which roughly agreed with the infrared observations. A more detailed examination (with 13,000 spots) of both spot brightness and line-of-sight magnetic flux reveals that the relationship of the sunspot magnetic fields with spot brightness and size remain constant during the solar cycle. There are only small temporal variations in the spot brightness, size, and line-of-sight flux seen in this larger sample. Because of the apparent disagreement between the two data sets, we discuss how the infrared spectral line provides a uniquely direct measurement of the magnetic fields in sunspots

I'm following Madajas train of theory right now, anticipating some serious solar action, and expansion of the atmosphere.

My reason being only, there was far more activity a year prior to the flip (whether it has actually happened or not yet), and there is no reason to believe we won't experience more on our way down slope to our minimum.

Also, I'd certainly LIKE to see more before we hit the inevitable spotless days. Who knows if we will ever manage to see, economically or otherwise, the next max.
