Nice solar eclipse. Lol

SDO ECLIPSE SEASON BEGINS: Twice every year, around the time of the equinoxes, Earth can pass directly between the Sun and NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), producing a series of beautiful eclipses from the point of view of the spacecraft. SDO's vernal eclipse season began this weekend, producing a partial blackout of the sun:

Nice Solarsoft SDO movie of flare to the right and a filament eruption to the left:

I wonder how many threads will be started that the sun has died!lol

not to worry, I have already debunked this by providing the quotes above. wonder how many people will call me a shill for it? lol

Now this is what I miss - and to think it was only a year ago!!! Always think the X-flares on the 5th and 7th last year were the sun's personal gifts to me, since the 7th's flares would have still be on the 6th my special once a year day. Would be cool to see another 1429, sigh.

Sunspot 1429 was da bomb!!!!!!!

Why such a high Dark Count [link to lasp.colorado.edu] ?

Anyone!?
 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

I'm not certain why, but it may have something to do with this-

Space Weather Message Code: ALTEF3
Serial Number: 1987
Issue Time: 2013 Mar 03 0507 UTC

CONTINUED ALERT: Electron 2MeV Integral Flux exceeded 1000pfu
Continuation of Serial Number: 1986
Begin Time: 2013 Mar 02 1040 UTC
Yesterday Maximum 2MeV Flux: 3800 pfu
Potential Impacts: Satellite systems may experience significant charging resulting in increased risk to satellite systems.

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Energetic Particle

.24 hr Summary...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at
predominately high levels throughout the period, beginning at 02/1040
UTC, reaching a maximum flux value of 3,800 particle flux units (pfu) at
02/1730 UTC. Electron flux values briefly decreased to moderate levels
between 02/2250 UTC - 02/2345 UTC and again at 03/0130 UTC - 03/0500
UTC. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux at geosynchronous orbit were
at background levels throughout the period.

.Forecast...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to remain predominately
at high levels with intermittent decreases to moderate levels for the
next three days (03 - 05 Mar).

WTF? Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was low. Newly-numbered Region 1687 (N06E68) produced
the largest events of the period, two C1 flares
, at 02/1511 UTC and
02/1847 UTC. Region 1683 (S16E36) was stable and maintained a
beta-gamma magnetic configuration. Region 1687 was classified as an
Axx-type alpha region, but there may be more to the region than we can
currently see due to limb foreshortening effects. Newly-numbered Region
1686 (S13W25) was classified as a Dro-type beta region.
The other
regions on the disk were unremarkable. No Earth-directed coronal mass
ejections (CME) were observed.

Why such a high Dark Count [link to lasp.colorado.edu] ?

Anyone!?

I'm not certain why, but it may have something to do with this-

Space Weather Message Code: ALTEF3
Serial Number: 1987
Issue Time: 2013 Mar 03 0507 UTC

CONTINUED ALERT: Electron 2MeV Integral Flux exceeded 1000pfu
Continuation of Serial Number: 1986
Begin Time: 2013 Mar 02 1040 UTC
Yesterday Maximum 2MeV Flux: 3800 pfu
Potential Impacts: Satellite systems may experience significant charging resulting in increased risk to satellite systems.

Its' only 3400 pfu though,I have seen 37000pfu in the past and not seen/noticed(at least)a marked increase in the Interfering Particle Count?

New active regions numbered-1686 in the SE and 1687 in the NE-

ARs 1685, 1686 and another one not numbered-
:3/3SE:

AR1687-
:3/3NE:

Another active region, a small Beta group in the SW, has been ignored by NOAA for two days. At first glance I thought it was 1680 but it's almost 20 degrees too far north.

Latest HMI Intensitygram:

That un-numbered region was already responsible for a B5.5 flare as noted by solarsoft's flare events summary:

Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
So 1686 is the AR in the southwest and I goofed reading that earlier. I just assumed they were numbering the new SE regions. It seems they thought the whole SE was one big happy group. I think now that pot is legal in Colorado they should move NOAA a little further away from the fumes, LOL. I could easily see two distinct ARs close together when they were still on the backside! Here's their lame explanation-

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was at very low levels for the past 24 hours. Three
sunspot regions have been numbered in the past 24 hours, Region
1686(S13W31) a simple beta group, Region 1687(N06E65) another simple
beta group that is still rotating into view, and finally Region
1685(S16E46) was split into two separate regions with the more southerly
region becoming Region 1688(S17E52). Magnetogram and intensitygram
images from the SDO spacecraft, as well as ground based observations,
suggested that Region 1685 was in fact two separate developing regions.

Even though there are currently 9 numbered active regions on the disk, 8
with sunspots, very little solar activity has been observed. Region
1683(S16E30) remains the most likely region for continued solar
activity, however current observations show this region to now display
only beta magnetic characteristics. Around 03/0800 UTC, a filament
eruption was observed in h-alpha imagery. Coronagraph imagery does not
suggest a coronal mass ejection (CME) associated with this event, thus
implying the filament did not eject off the disk, but was rather
reabsorbed.
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

well, Duh!, seems like NOAA is on a 48-hour delay....maybe the Pentagon has to approve their every move. Maybe they will be "reabsorbed" by the sequestration, haha. Anyway, here's the scorecard for today-
