LOOK! A CME SHAMROCK ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY! What's next? Green flares?

SOHO C3 image:

Yes,I'd just noticed it also : )

Funny games!?

That is the North-West and Mid-South-East combo,no?

70% Geo-effective for the Eastern Filament - What say ye?

Enlil hasn't updated it yet,awaiting.
 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

I don't know, Sir Cesium, SOHO is still missing 7 crucial hours of data. It's either a full halo far-side or a combo platter of several CMEs going every which way. I'll leave it to you folks to get to the crux of the biscuit. I must sleep some to serve the machines in the AM. 18 hours of geo-storms has worn me out. Goodnight all.
 Quoting: Hugh M Eye

going by STEREO images, that we do have, it looks for sure geoeffective
but it did shoot out to the east some, and north some
so not a direct shot like the CME that arrived today
but imo we will see a glancing blow from this one. im not doing math tonight, but i would say sometime on tuesday March 19 - wednesday march 20th

Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
Remember that 'tree ring mystery' that was in the news about 500 pages back? Well, I'd forgotten about it, too. Scientists were baffled by inexplicable C14 readings and were hemming and hawing about gamma ray bursts, supernovae or solar activity as the cause; eventually ruling them all out. Hence, the mystery.

A new peer-reviewed paper is coming out in the journal Geophysical Review Letters which..........wait for it.........blames it on the Sun. In fact they theorize A MEGA-CME 20X the CARRINGTON EVENT!!! We may need to order more sun screen and a Faraday Cage for your Faraday Cage! Shit, we're worrying about a repeat of Carrington and we could get hit with something much, much more powerful. Here's a few teasers-

(snip)They estimate that such a blast would have been about 70 times as powerful as that which knocked out power for millions in Quebec in 1989. It could also have been about 20 times as powerful as the blast behind the solar storm of 1859, which disrupted telegraph systems in North America and Europe. Our sun is probably capable of such a huge blast, given that many distant sunlike stars have been spotted releasing flares that big, if not bigger, the scientists say, though the blast would still have been too small to cause massive extinctions. (snip)
[link to news.sciencemag.org]

Here's the Abstract and a link to order your copy of this paper:

Keywords:
solar proton event;ozone;carbon-14
ABSTRACT
[1] We examine possible sources of a substantial increase in tree ring14C measurements for the years AD 774-775. Contrary to claims regarding a coronal mass ejection (CME), the required CME energy is not several orders of magnitude greater than known solar events. We consider solar proton events (SPEs) with three different fluences and two different spectra. The data may be explained by an event with fluence about one order of magnitude beyond the October 1989 SPE.Two hard spectrum cases considered here result in moderate ozone depletion, so no mass extinction is implied, though we do predict increases in erythema and damage to plants from enhanced solar UV.. The modern technological implications of such an event may be extreme, and considering recent confirmation of super-flares on solar-type stars, this issue merits attention.

umm wow i must have missed that posting pages back :/
i have studied the C14 because this throws out the carbon dateing thats done
and i have always thought, well since i started learning about space and the sun and solar stuff, that it would be next to impossible to "carbon date" anything! cause they do this only taking into account the rate of decay based on the sun we live with today! if there was some cosmic event in the distant past (and there is a ton of evidence pointing to this) then the age of all ancient things we know of, is completly wrong!
ok, i did not read all of your post yet Hugh haha cause i just got so excited someone was actually bringing this subject up in here that i hit reply before i read past C14 hahaha
i will now go back and read ^^

here are 3 of my saved links on this subject that i will agree with, more should be looking into this and at least considering it

Ancient tree rings might be proof of worst solar storm in history
Scientists studying tree rings found a sharp increase in the amount of radioactive carbon-14 recorded in the rings of ancient Japanese cedar trees between 774 and 775. Carbon-14 can be created by cosmic ray particles arriving from space, but what causes such cosmic ray increases?
[link to www.mnn.com]

Ancient Trees Hold Record of Mysterious Cosmic Event
A tree’s rings mark both its age and the local environmental conditions, which allows researchers to track historical changes in an ecosystem. But tree rings can also encode signals from beyond Earth: Ancient trees in the Northern Hemisphere have preserved a radioactive souvenir from a 1200-year-old burst of cosmic rays.
[link to blogs.discovermagazine.com]

Did A Massive Solar Proton Event Fry The Earth
Close to the end of the last ice age there was a sudden disappearance of many mammalian species which some paleontologists say was the most severe since the disappearance of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. In North America 95 percent of the megafauna became extinct, these being predominantly mammals having body weights greater than 25 to 50 kilograms. But even small animals were affected, as in the disappearance of 10 genera of birds.

Although North America was most affected, it had a severe impact also in Europe, Siberia, and South America. The cause of the extinction has long remained a mystery. Theories that have been put forth have ranged from overkill by North American paleolithic hunters to the impact of a large comet or swarm of meteors. But all have been shown to have serious flaws.

What a great (and green) way to begin St. Patricks Day! The CME hit us in Fairbanks, Alaska right as predicted late on the evening of March 16 and, with few exceptions, kept us aurora photographers hopping all night long. The only reason I gave up around 2 a.m. is that I ran out of memory cards for my digital camera! One of the most lovely auroral shapes--the corona--occurred one after the other after the other and was one of the prettiest displays Ive seen in many years.

then on the google sky app showed the sun (sun was setting) looking west

sun then uranus then mars then venus

all kinda close like a long alinement?
