sunspots are always re named
they use to do this when we could not see the backside rotation AT ALL
since we now can see around the back quite a bit, they just keep re numbering them like they always have
the minute the sunspot rotates in earths direction, it gets a new number :)

Looks like we may be about to be bloody eclipsed just as 1698 is about to blow...the Dark Count is up so that means interference from the VA Belts and the Colo(u)or hue is changing on SDO composites.

Not sure if this model was posted already, but looks like you were right NiN!

seen your post and headed to spaceweather to see if they had anything to say on this new CME
here is what they have

The storm is subsiding now, but more auroras could be in the offing. A solar wind stream is due to brush against Earth's magnetic field on March 19-20. The impact won't be as strong as that of the March 17th CME. It should be enough, however, to spark some more Arctic lights.

Phew..no eclipse..must have passed below or above,dark Count has fallen so the EVE interference is now gone also.

That would have sucked if she Flared just as we had a Eclipse.

No,that drama is my bag with regard the weighting.

NiNz was just saying how they number regions as they return to the Earth facing disc.

They renumber them as that is how the long count of Sunspots is recorded.
