Scientists are puzzled by unexpected acceleration in several unmanned spacecraft as they flew toward the Sun.snip- As long ago as September 1998, however, the same enigmatic forces were also reported to be acting on the Ulysses spacecraft that was then in a high orbit through the Solar System. In that case Ulysses demonstrated a sunward acceleration when radio signals from Earth bounced off a transponder onboard the solar observatory and indicated a Doppler shift in the frequency of the return transmission.
The induced frequency shift was greater than could be affected by any known mechanism and no one in the conventional science community can yet account for it.More space probes are now being added to the mix. After examining telemetry from NEAR-Shoemaker (now resting on the surface of Asteroid Eros), the Galileo mission to Jupiter, Cassini-Huygens (one part each orbiting Saturn and the other resting on the surface of Titan), the Rosetta cometary probe and the MESSENGER mission to Mercury, a similar discrepancy has been detected.
John Anderson, a retired astronomer currently on assignment to NASA, recently wrote:
“I am feeling both humble and perplexed by this. There is something very strange going on with spacecraft motions. We have no convincing explanation for either the Pioneer anomaly or the flyby anomaly…. We should continue to monitor spacecraft during Earth flybys. We should look carefully at newly recovered Pioneer data for more evidence of the Pioneer anomaly.
We should think about launching a dedicated mission on an escape trajectory from the solar system, just to look for anomalies in its motion.”more: [

Well, since you asked. My intuition told me the speeding up and slowing down has to do with hologram physics. Then I clicked your very excellent link for alternative science sites, scrolled down, and down and down and found this link for holographic universe, and this interesting material. Not drawing a conclusion, just simply 'drawing'.

I found this particularly interesting from the link and maybe applies to the space probes issue....somehow.
To enable people to better visualize what he means, Bohm offers the following illustration. Imagine an aquarium containing a fish. Imagine also that you are unable to see the aquarium directly and your knowledge about it and what it contains comes from two television cameras, one directed at the aquarium's front and the other directed at its side. As you stare at the two television monitors, you might assume that the fish on each of the screens are separate entities. After all, because the cameras are set at different angles, each of the images will be slightly different. But as you continue to watch the two fish, you will eventually become aware that there is a certain relationship between them. When one turns, the other also makes a slightly different but corresponding turn; when one faces the front, the other always faces toward the side. If you remain unaware of the full scope of the situation, you might even conclude that the fish must be instantaneously communicating with one another, but this is clearly not the case. This, says Bohm, is precisely what is going on between the subatomic particles in Aspect's experiment.
According to Bohm, the apparent faster-than-light connection between subatomic particles is really telling us that there is a deeper level of reality we are not privy to, a more complex dimension.

In a holographic universe, even time and space could no longer be viewed as fundamentals.
Because concepts such as location break down in a universe in which nothing is truly separate from anything else, time and three-dimensional space, like the images of the fish on the TV monitors, would also have to be viewed as projections of this deeper order. At its deeper level reality is a sort of superhologram in which the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously. This suggests that given the proper tools it might even be possible to someday reach into the superholographic level of reality and pluck out scenes from the long-forgotten past.
so holograms and lasers go togethere....then I wondered if there were any lasers in nature and found this.
The laser is created as intense ultraviolet light from the star "pumps" or excites the densely packed hydrogen atoms in the gaseous, dusty disk surrounding the star. Then, when the infrared light shines on the excited hydrogen atoms, it causes the atoms to emit an intense beam of light at exactly the same wavelength, creating the circumstellar laser, according to Sean W. J. Colgan of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute, Mountain View, CA, a co-investigator in the discovery.
