No one really knows at the moment. A lot of things going on at once
Quoting: Da fuq yes we do we have talked for the last 3 pages about it there was a CME off the western limb that was associated with a M5 solar flare that induced a solar particle event the rise in protons is the result Quoting: NiNzrez Thank you for stating the obvious, it was in regards to the multiple instruments going down during the event. [ link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] GOes is still down, and if you browse the SDO data half the western limb lights up. I mean correct me if i'm wrong, do normal M class flares and the following CME's knock out GOES and a few others momentarily often? Quoting: Da fuq I thought it was obvious, but you saying that no one really knew what was going on was incorrect. maybe you replied to the wrong post, but these replies had nothing at all to do with any instruments going down. they had to do with the proton flux rise you stating that 'no one really knows' can scare a new reader or a now and then lurker of this thread into thinking that WE DO NO KNOW wtf is going on, when in fact we do
as I have already posted earlier along with lots of info and links on the subject.. this event was not about any size of any flare. the flare size was not fudged, changed, hidden etc.
everything that is going on is because of the protons that were ejected from the sun with the CME anything that had to do with the M flare is long over with. the satellite interruptions or any malfunctions of sensors onboard the satellites is/was caused by the solar radiation storm that has occurred
yes, instruments on satellites do go down often when there are larger particle proton events. this has happened many times in the past when there has been a SEP event and in fact is quite expected when there is a SEP event especially when there is a quick onset of the SEP event this is even stated on the NOAA scaleswe are in the middle of a S2 solar radiation storm at the moment almost at the S3 level here is the scale for S2 that has been posted today Biological: passengers and crew in high-flying aircraft at high latitudes may be exposed to elevated radiation risk.*** Satellite operations: infrequent single-event upsets possible.Other systems: small effects on HF propagation through the polar regions and navigation at polar cap locations possibly affected. In blue, above- Thank you mucho Ninz for all this precision and clarity, I have learned a whole bunch today by following the awesome solar events we've had our eyes on, while following closely the updates and infos here in your 'room'. Your input really rocks massively!! Go Ninz go! ..and in blue, below- For new baby suntards, this website is a great easy-to-understand guide for Sun-watchers.
