SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

Newly-numbered AR1787 gave us the M1.5 & C7.2 (told ya).

Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity increased to moderate levels. Newly-numbered Region 1787
(S13E76, Dso/beta) rotated into view and produced an M1/Sf flare at
03/0708 UTC associated with a Type II radio sweep (est. shock speed 1033
km/s) and minor discrete frequency bursts. Region 1787 also produced a
C7 x-ray flare at 02/2358 UTC associated with a non-Earth-directed
coronal mass ejection (CME). Region 1785 (S11E55, Fkc/beta) produced a
C7/1f flare at 02/1749 UTC as well as several B-class flares. There
appeared to be gradual spot and penumbral development in the
intermediate portion of Region 1785, but analysis was hampered by
limb-foreshortening effects. Region 1780 (S11W85, Hrx/alpha) produced
occasional B- and C-class flares as it approached the west limb. Region
1781 (N21W64, Dso/beta) gradually decayed during the period. There were
no Earth-directed CMEs observed during the period.

I expect to see even bigger fireworks from Sol for Independence Day. If 1787 could produce an M flare, I think 1785 could show us a much bigger event soon. each hour that goes by puts Earth more in the crosshairs.

I'd already be happy with an M-flare, but an X-flare would be wicked! Anything below X5 is good for me. We don't need a megaflare to hit us anytime soon.
