During the first NASA Google+ Hangout news briefing on Wednesday, July 10, the agency shared news that the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) mission has for the first time mapped out the structure of the solar system's tail. Like a comet, the solar system has a tail called a heliotail, that is shaped like a four-leaf clover, according to new IBEX data.

so this is new data i think.

kinda have to revisit this theory again...

Apparently the solar wind — a million-mile-per-hour stream of charged particles pushed outward in all directions by the Sun — morphs into a long "wind sock" once it reaches interstellar space.

That C3.5 flare in the SW a few hours ago had some ejecta. I don't see much of a CME yet though. Here's the Solarsoft SDO close-up movie :

They also mentioned there was no bowshock like they thought in front of the heliosphere.

I don't post much on this thread, but check it daily as this is a very reliable post...today , I have a horrible headache and a feeling of total body doom....so now i know why...thanks for all your help tards.

We've known for two years the bowshock was an eccentric postulation, as a system configuration. The real deal is the amount of energy in the form of clouds(interstellar), comets with electromagnetic potential, and the true magnetic concentration plus drift as an interstellar energy we're seeing. We are under an extreme cyclic start or a crazy interstellar polarity flipping energy source!

We have fluff!OR... we have help!

a small update on voyager...

do all solar systems have tails like comets?

are we just riding a slower moving comet?


makes one re-think comets?

AR1785 was a huge disappointment. It seemed to have all the ingredients for a spectacular flare-filled week- large, expansive spot group, mixed Delta polarities, etc. Well, as you know, like a lot of rookie phenoms, he pooped=out before the All-Star break (pardon my mixed metaphors). So we patiently watch and wait....that AR which produced the 3 X's in 24 hrs.didn't look like much at all to me....I guess size isn't everything after all. I think all of the longtime followers of this thread know that we're constantly surprised and amazed at unexpected solar events and often crushed with boredom and anxiety when the expected never materializes. Perhaps we're looking at a mirror of human existence and the spiritual potentialities imagined, yet never seized upon. Always remember that one instant can change history, reality, and YOUR life....but maybe it's a chaotic jumble of micro-instants that few folks notice .....

I count dozens of small filaments on the disc, mostly on the south-eastern portion. Why are there so many filaments at the moment??
