The reason that sunspot appear dark is because the gas that is inside the sunspot does not emit as much light. The magnetic field inside the sunspot is stronger, and there is less light than the rest of the surface of the sun. In actuality, the sunspot is a bright orange.

if this might be true it would open a whole can of worms.....

maybe just the magnetic fields change the temp.
