Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
Astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope have solved the 40-year-old mystery of the origin of the Magellanic Stream, a long ribbon of gas stretching nearly halfway around the Milky Way. New Hubble observations reveal that most of this stream was stripped from the Small Magellanic Cloud some two billion years ago, with a smaller portion originating more recently from its larger neighbour.

The Magellanic Clouds, two dwarf galaxies orbiting our galaxy, are at the head of a huge gaseous filament known as the Magellanic Stream. Since the Stream's discovery in the early 1970s, astronomers have wondered whether this gas comes from one or both of the satellite galaxies. Now, new Hubble observations show that most of the gas was stripped from the Small Magellanic Cloud about two billion years ago — but surprisingly, a second region of the stream was formed more recently from the Large Magellanic Cloud.

PERSEID METEORS PEAK Aug. 11th-12th....here's some links you may find helpful.

S&T Viewing Guide:
[link to www.skyandtelescope.com]

Some early Perseids can already be seen now at the Meteor Detection Live 3D Radar:
[link to www.merriott-astro.co.uk]

If viewing isn't possible in your area due to weather, check out these all-sky camera networks:

[link to www.allskycam.com]

[link to fireballs.ndc.nasa.gov]

Audio of Live Meteor Radar Echoes:

[link to topaz.streamguys.tv]

more info on the Radar echoes:
[link to spaceweatherradio.com]

If you're fortunate enough to see a bolide (fireball) brighter than Venus or the Moon, report it to the American Meteor Society's Report-A-Fireball page:
[link to www.amsmeteors.org]

Read others' reports of fireball sightings and more at the AMS Homepage:
[link to www.amsmeteors.org]

May the good Lord grant you clear dark skies this year. The Moon sets early and shouldn't be problem. Remember, NO SPECIAL OPTICS NECESSARY, just your own eyeballs. Perseids are right overhead (mostly), so viewing is best from a reclining-type lounge chair or lie on a blanket and look up (mosquito repellent optional). Let the kids stay up late and enjoy a free heavenly sky show they'll always remember. Happy trails.....

Thanks for all these resources Hugh. Should be PERFECT here in NE. Pa. according to our weather report this evening. I already saw a big one, night before last. It was in the Northeast sky, came in and swelled up blue, dimmed, then expanded again, green this time. I said, in another post, it was so unusual I expected to hear a sonic boom, so wouldn't be surprised if there are one or two booms this weekend.

Wow, that was very cool. hfIt seemed to be tumbling as it changed shape and brightness a couple of times. Thanks for posting this.

I just stepped out for a quick smoke and saw a nice meteor that came out from Cassiopeia & had a short smoke-trail behind. Very fast, a typical Perseid. Earlier we had much rain and lightning storms here in TN, so I was surprised to walk out and see a million stars. After a long period of static, I'm starting to hear a lot of whistlers on that Radar Echo link I posted. I just let it run in the background on my computer. By the way, the only time I saw the Aurora Borealis was at Rickett's Glen in upstate Pennsy. Beautiful country up there.

Solar UV Imager passes test-phase for new GOES-R Satellite-

A Lockheed Martin team has completed and passed the full range of environmental tests - electrical, mechanical and thermal - for the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (SUVI) instrument that will make crucial solar measurements when it flies on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) next-generation Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) satellite mission, known as GOES-R.

Pardon me if this was covered in my absence, but some insight on the recent power-down of the HAARP facility in Gakona, AK-

The shutdown is reported to be only a temporary one, with the facility having been shuttered sometime between late May and mid-June.
“It was a surprise to all of us to hear it was shutting down,” said Dr. Bill Bristow, a professor of electrical engineering at UAF.
Air Force officials are hopeful that the facility would open and resume operations in mid-August. DARPA currently has a sizeable funding bloc allocated for additional ionospheric research in the fall of 2013, so it will likely have to be open for that research.
The shuttering of HAARP has apparently arisen from a contractor regime change. The facility’s operations were previously administered by Kaktovik Inupiat Corp. subsidiary — and 8(a) contractor — Marsh Creek, LLC. Reportedly in talks to take over the contract is regional Alaska Native corporation Ahtna, which oversees the area of Gakona, where HAARP is located.
Neither Marsh Creek nor Ahtna returned requests for comment Wednesday.(snip)

“I understand that … DARPA intends to run a campaign this fall, so the facility will be open for that,” Smith said. “So the notion that it is completely closed down is not quite correct, though it is certainly not operational at the moment.”
Though HAARP is continually manned and maintained when operational, there aren’t always experiments being conducted at the facility.
“HAARP doesn’t operate continually,” said Dr. Brenton Watkins, professor emeritus of physics at UAF. “It operates in a ‘campaign’ mode with kind of two-week periods of activity. I’ve been involved in every operational campaign for — I think — the last five years.”
He said that though the facility being closed in the summer time is better for the equipment inside than if the heat were shut off in the winter, he still can’t get in to conduct maintenance on the equipment he works with. He said that he primarily works with a “diagnostic radar” intended to better understand experiments as they’re conducted.

Greetings, Isis One, we've seen ones almost 2X that size and they usually (?) break off in smaller chunks over a period of days. These filaments are very unpredictable though, and may persist for a week or more; maybe a slow erosion of little pieces or possibly a catastrophic eruption. As it becomes more Earth-facing, it's wise to keep a close eye on it.

hi
Howdy Sol'Team sun

Hugh,
you sure missed quite a few episodes of the haarp saga...

The debate over whether it was closed or not, or then later rephrased as just temporarily out of business til a swap of hands, has been quite the soap-opera on some other corner of the internetz...

I'll let someone else catch you up in PM if they feel like it, lol (I don't have PM functionality, sorry).

Thanks for all your updates Hugh, hf I hope you see lotsa Perseides, and auroras too! (cloudy here now, but hopeful for weekend Perseides).

hf all :-)

LET'S GET METAPHYSICAL DEPT.-

Ordinary man has only the physical body. The physical body dies and nothing is left of it. The physical body is composed of earthly material and at death it returns to earth. It is dust and to dust it returns. It is impossible to talk of any kind of 'immortality' for a man of this sort.

But if a man has the second body, this second body is composed of material of the planetary world and it can survive the death of the physical body. It is not immortal in the full sense of the word, because after a certain period of time it also dies. But at any rate it does not die with the physical body.

If a man has the third body it is composed of material of the sun and it can exist after the death of the 'astral' body.

"The fourth body is composed of material of the starry world, that is, of material that does not belong to the solar system, and therefore, if it has crystallized within the limits of the solar system there is nothing within this system that could destroy it. This means that a man possessing the fourth body is immortal within the limits of the solar system."

I thought Landscheidt Minimum was impressive... then I saw this 15min vid, on the Pleistocene and Holocene geo Periods.

Get the fur coats!!

"But the plans were on display . . ."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
"That's the display department."
"With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice, didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard."

Great post, hadn't read anything like that before. Mind if I post it on Gabe's thread, quite a few esoteric thinkers there would love it.

You may re-post anything I put out there, darling. As far as vast experience goes, although I've been a Space cadet since I was a boy, I've only been focused on the sun for about 2 years, haha. Not as vast as Dr. Strong, but maybe a bit more tenacious. By the way, "ESOTERIC" is the key word with Gurdjieff and Ouspensky and their unique view of the cosmos will make you think and think-again. Check out a book called "The 4th Way".

Several small C-flares today herald the next wave of activity. 3 or 4 more spots are lined up for next week....
