I have had some interesting conversations lately with some people I know that I consider "awake" and looking beyond MSM propaganda.

In particular a conversation this weekend ....

... due to the over hyped solar (non) events publicized by MSM, many people are under the impression, and believe that our US government agencies are "aware" of an impending massive solar event and is one of the reasons behind all this National preparedness and talk of a huge natural disaster, specifically an EMP like event caused by a massive CME.

Although I don't believe it is completely out of the question, as we have no way to predict what the sun may do whether in Solar Max (currently disappointing) or not. But in the same train of thought, cannot predict that it WILL definitively happen either.

The only concern I personally have is that this Solar propaganda may steer those not familiar with those possibilities and may misconstrue a possible man made EMP event for an over publicized, intentionally deceptive, but erroneous Solar event.

Any thoughts ???

A potentially earth-directed CME from an eruption near AR1834 in the NW. No major x-ray flares so I imagine it was a filament. STEREO A cor 2 movie shows the resulting ejection:

Howdy, Agent66 ...interesting post. That story about a 'near-miss' Carrington Event (which never happened) that was spread far and wide a couple of weeks ago left me feeling a little uneasy. Not the story itself which was pure bunk, but the number of MSM news sites which just repeated this without any fact-checking whatsoever. I'm glad Spaceweather.com shot it down before I began to doubt my sanity, LOL.

Anyway, the source for the story was not an astronomer or a space physicist, but a 'consultant' promoting a hardening of the power grid. In other words, some bloke lobbying for government funding for him and his gang. Actually, I'd completely forgotten about it, so I'm just going from memory here. This story should never have been posted on Mainstream news sites which claim any credibility whatsoever.

Have there been others recently? I mean besides the old recycled Ed Dames' bs prophecies and the pre-2012 doom-hype...the 'near-miss' one is the only recent one I'm aware of.

I've seen several instances of fearmongering via MSM, over the last couple of months that just didn't add up to the data . I questioned the reasoning behind, and low and behold, several different people, on several different occasions have expressed concern over a modern day Carrington event, and that believe the government already knows about it's inevitability weeks, months in advance.

Of course I've told them we currently do not have such predictive technology, and our understanding of the sun is simply not that precise, but that if it is MSMs intention to spread disinfo, fear, and conspiracy about this particular (minimum ) Solar Maximum, they certainly have succeeded with those unfamiliar in the field, and actual data available which disproves it.

I think that even if this particular doom-mongering were absolutely debunked on mainstream (but was it? nah), the fear is now instilled in the 'collective mind'. Which was the objective. And probably succeeded.

Yeah trial members don't get ban immunity, I learned that the hard way too! If optimum has 25 karma points he can trade them in for 1 month of ban immunity though. (the banning that goes on on this website is extremely discouraging! )
