i always get nervous when people i know have friends who take their lives. i went through this back when i was 16, lost one friend then ...3 more followed the first.
there is not one thing this world can send your way that should cause one to take their own life....not one thing!

Those are just some snippets, there's lots of good info in there. For those that look at the pole chart [link to www.leif.org] and wonder why the readings go up and down so often, the article does a better job of explaining it than I probably can.

Thanks for posting this, Madajs. Very good explanation indeed and well-illustrated, too. Although the sun is quiet of late, I think Cycle 24 may still hold some surprises for us. Peace and prayers to you and all solar-watchers.

What a dismal sun
Hi Sol crew, hope all are doing well. Sorry to hear about your friend Mtn Mang, sending love & light your way.

Today I went out to take my usual pics of the sun and I thought I had an equipment malfunction,
I had nothing to focus on (No Spots). WTF is going on are we in solar maximum or are we in the double peak maximum
and in between the peaks,never before have I witnessed the sun so bare of spots.

Upon closer inspection I managed to see AR 1838 & AR 1836.

Hey guys. Wanted to thank everybody for the prayers. Looks like the global prayer chain has really worked. Got an update and my colleague actually took a turn for the better. No longer needs a respirator and is starting to talk.

Ouch! We may see the first spotless sun in over two years. AR1838 is the only numbered region and it's fading out fast. I guess those 6 returning regions just disappeared on the back side. I thought we had a new emerging region, but it was just a little bug on computer screen, LOL. There is a large coronal hole nearing mid-disk, but not much else. A sunspot number of "0" may be in the offing soon (after we had a SS# of 161 less than two weeks ago!). Old Sol sure is moody of late. Triple peak cycle, anyone?

Satellites tracked the meteors plume around the Earth for more than 4 days-

Some of the surviving pieces of the Chelyabinsk bolide fell to the ground. But the explosion also deposited hundreds of tons of dust up in the stratosphere, allowing a NASA satellite to make unprecedented measurements of how the material formed a thin but cohesive and persistent stratospheric dust belt.

"We wanted to know if our satellite could detect the meteor dust," said Gorkavyi, of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., who led the study, which has been accepted for publication in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. "Indeed, we saw the formation of a new dust belt in Earth's stratosphere, and achieved the first space-based observation of the long-term evolution of a bolide plume."

"By Feb. 19, four days after the explosion, the faster, higher portion of the plume had snaked its way entirely around the Northern Hemisphere and back to Chelyabinsk. But the plume's evolution continued: At least three months later, a detectable belt of bolide dust persisted around the planet."
