Comet ISON pics from Nov. 14th....it's much brighter now.

I went out at 3:30 am to see ISON and couldn't find it. Found an APP for my phone from Google.... was looking in the wrong area. Went back out at 5:45am and had clouds.


It is a lot easier to look at the great photos at the bruce gary web site.

Mornings are not my thing and so far there have been clouds and fog. Can't wait for it to really show up well, if the thing doesn't fall apart like rumors are saying it will!

Saw that, wonder what's happening?

NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft will have its eyes set on Comet's ISON and Encke as they fly-by Mercury on Nov 18 and 19th, 2013. The Mercury probe will analyze the chemical makeup of the comets and snap pictures.

What exactly does this graph mean? All I know is i get a killer migraine everytime it does this...

It means some type of particles (likely, solar) are bombarding our magnetosphere, compressing it. The standoff is a measurement of this and it did drop this evening as Nerd posted on the fog thread. The energy from the particles propagates it way down through the atmosphere and can affect the human electromagnetic field. Many people have sensitivities to these energies, many do not. I feel euphoric when the electrons increase, then like a plank of petrified wood when the protons accelerate.

It looked impulsive so I don't expect too much of a CME. If there is one it should be Earth-directed, but that hasn't held true lately. We'll have to wait awhile for STEREO A images and SOHO.

NOAA Solar Activity .24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was at moderate levels due to an M1/Sf flare at 15/0229
UTC from Region 1899 (N06E35, Dko/beta-gamma). Region 1899 was stable
while Region 1897 (S21E12, Ekc/beta-gamma-delta) showed some decay but
was responsible for a C7/1n flare at 15/1135 UTC. Moderate growth was
observed in Region 1900 (S19W29, Dac/beta-gamma). Region 1893 (S13W25,
Dsc/beta-gamma) also grew more magnetically complex based on SDO
imagery. Region 1902 (N19W06, Dso/beta) was also numbered today.

.Forecast...
The preponderance of relatively complex regions suggests solar activity
is likely to be at moderate levels (R1-R2, Minor-Moderate) with a slight
chance for X-class (R3, Strong) flares during the forecast period (16-18
Nov).

I can't tell yet where the C8.6 came from. There's a new region beyond the NE limb which has already recorded a C3 flare or it may be 1897. I'll have to wait for EVE on this one.
