Perigee means, "the point in any orbit nearest to the body being orbited." We are experiencing three (3) lunar perigees in a row, which means a new or full moon is at 90% or greater of its closest perigee (distance) to earth. However, an extreme "SuperMoon" lunar perigee is when the moon is full or new, and is at its 100% greater mean perigee to earth. Last month’s full moon (February 18), this month’s full moon (March 19) and next month’s full moon (April 17) are all “lunar perigees”; however, the March full moon is an extreme "SuperMoon" lunar perigee. Scientists think the largest effect is a slightly higher tide than normal, which normally occurs at the full moon every month as the moon orbits closer to the earth. Although it cannot be proven, some say these moon events are related to catastrophes such as extreme seismic events or extreme weather; and coincidentally, some strong disasters have happened at or near lunar perigees in the past
