Banks will always have "power" since people will always want a hamburger today with the promise of paying for it tomorrow.

That's all banks do, satisfy the immediate gratification of individuals and groups, even governments, by extending credit.

As long as their credit can spend the same in the economy as real money they will always retain their power. If you got rid of the fed and went back to a hard money standard, you would still have the desire for immediate gratification and those people who know how to lie to give people their hamburger today, even though they can't afford it.

The only real solution is to admit that the worst of human elements exist and remove the government backing of those elements, i.e. let risk run it's course.

If the banks want to create trillions of fictional loans with no real backing then let them as long as the government doesn't come in to save them because they are too big to jail.
