I'm thinking this is just in there to make it look cool, something you can relate with.
But it makes no sense, either they should have gotten the booze on board, then it makes sense to write about it. something like;
"we quenched our great thirst with fermented elexir while trying to peek trough the crowded windows as the drama unfolded"

If you dont have it, you dont talk about it, this text is supposed to be, you know, like the stone tablets, a few words that got out. you would want to waste any words making stupid remaks, admitting you own foolishness?
