Company 'Parties' that are anything but fun and relaxed.

Being forced to 'Volunteer'

ENDLESS stupid, meaningless meetings, and then having to work your ass off to finish your work because so much time was wasted in the dumb ass meetings.

Cubicles. The only thing worse than cubes are the open floor layouts, with lines of desks lined up as far as your blood shot eyes can see.

BAD AIR. Literally, bad air. No wonder so many people who work in offices are always sick and coughing.

Past experience, act like a dick to everyone AND do your job above all others, you will get your own office and away from all the ass kissers

Quit and start your own business. Or don't, but you choose to be there, so no whining allowed.

My hubby is a teacher and it's got it's own downfalls.

It's all the same, unless you work in a free creative environment where truth and creativity are encouraged.

We're not going to get that in this monetary system.
We work in a dictatorship anyway because whatever your boss says you do, you do, or else, and so there's no freedom in that, unless you are the boss, right? but then again, you have another boss and he's your dictator, etc, unless you are the boss of all.

Some people do something they love and they don't mind so much having some limits but most are under a job where they are hiding who they really are in order to keep the "machine" going.

This is a very deep pholosophical subject.

I work in the exact same office environment you are describing. it's called a mask that people wear in order to give the corporation a certain image and this is ecouraged in order for maximum profit. It's part of the sleep society we live in.

I've been trying to come up with a home business, I failed once and am still scarred from the money I lost. But I think I'm going to try again because like I said. I hate it..

To be honest,,, I LOVE my "office:. Mine is on a datacenter floor. I have NO contact with anyone and I do not go "visiting" like the others here. I sit here,,, do what I want and take care of my business.

I also work all the OT I can. So I am here a lot more than anyone.

But I don't do the normal office BS. Fuck the lunches out, the pizza parties,, drinks with the boss.

I was very naive and made the mistake of befriending a female manager. I became her pet, or at least I thought I was at the time. We would go out to eat together every week. Anyway, she assured me that "everything would stay between us" if I had any concerns. Well, I mentioned some things that I felt the partners could do a better job of. Not in a rude way, but I just felt that some improvements could be made and let her know because I trusted her. I also criticized them for cutting out overtime pay, and let her know. Again, I trusted her and felt what I was saying was confidential.

She was the ONLY one I was completely candid with if I had concerns and that was the reason why I was laid off, I'm sure. I had above average performance, they could have canned someone else. I'm positive she passed on what I said up to the partners, even though she was buddy buddy with me and promised "to keep it between us." What a naive idiot I was..

Lesson to be learned: don't trust ANYONE in the office. There is NO SUCH THING as a "trusted manager." Too bad I learned this one the hard way.

Lots of office workers have back issues. Have you ever sat down for eight straight hours? As backwards as it may sound, working a sedentary job is hard on the body.

I wouldn't mind. Most people treat their dogs way better than their fellow human beings anyway and spend way more money on their animal companions than they would on the pauper and needy.

14 years in... it is like prison day camp.

i've worked both in and out of the office. when the weather is nice i would love to be out, but climbing on roofs in august when it's 100 or in january when it's 30 degrees sucks.

Story of my life. I constantly feel like I'm walking on eggshells, always afraid that using the wrong choice of words around the wrong person will get me canned. I know EXACTLY what you mean by acting.

I cant believe there are only a handful of people who comment here. The inner office gossip sucks. Eating the young ones that come and go. Being scared to death that you have just used the wrong words in a stupid water cooler conversation that will now be you pink slip outta there..everyday. Sitting in a Freaking chair all day. Being to wiped out after the day to go for a dam walk. Those stupid clicky hour long lunches you may or may not be invited to.All the stupid paper you file away. I worked in horticulte for 4 years thought i couldnt take the hot weather anymore, went to the office. Its worse. the air inside sucks. Perfume, fabric softner on clothing, lotion. no one really does anything all freaking day but push papers around because the creativity we are born with is sucked out of you in the "Office". i could go on forever. Back to the original post, what can you do that isnt like office prison.... health care is worse.... dont bother with that. Your young become a Flight Attendant...

Offices don't suit my personality at all, so I quit the office work.

I never worked in an 'office', so I wouldn't really know...and starting your own business isn't all that easy(or necessarily profitable), and be prepared to make it your life if you do..There's no 40 and out when you're the owner...

On a side note, how much does one need to purchase a small farm?? -one that is large enough to sustain itself though...farming anything...anything that one could make a modest living off..any ideas??

Im ready to get out, do people ever go into farming with partners?? I can come up with some capital, just not sure if it would be enough...also be nice to share responsibilities i suppose

One thing that the OP did not mention, but I am sure that most office workers can relate to... Someone has always got their God-damned hand out for money. A wedding gift for this person, a baby shower gift for that person, a contribution for flowers because some bitches 135 year old aunt died, etc etc etc. I worked in a bank severel years ago, and the was a weeky occurence. On one occasion you had a ghetto sister who was pregnant with her 3rd out of wedlock kid supplied by a 3rd baby daddy. The branch manager, who was a politically correct zealot insisted that all 23 member of the office contribute $ 30.00 toward the cost of a baby gift for this trash. Many people did not HAVE $30.00 dollars to contribute, as they were working to support their OWN kids. Anyone who did not contribute were chastised, publicly humiliated , and called racist. In the end, it all worked out well- the same manager who insisted on the money for the ghetto sister lost her job when the ghetto sister later accused her of being racist.

I quit my office job 2 years ago. I work from home now and I actually miss the office environment BUT only part-part time as in 10 hours a week. I used to dread going to my cubicle in the mornings doing the same thing day in and day out. It was quite depressing...ok, on 2nd thought, I'd rather work from home although I feel I need to hussle more.

Here's what sucks... I worked in an office, quit bought a bar that failed (fun but almost killed me), sold and worked out of my home making a TON OF MONEY, then while leaving my ex he destroyed all my towers and servers and now I'm back in an office. I do have a window and it still sucks and now I'm SUPER MAD about it. Made decent money but feel empty inside. Would love to go back to working out of my home but there's no time for me to build my business back up. :( So that's my life story... pretty much in one paragraph. How lovely...
