As gasoline nears $4/gallon., banks may make it impossible to pay at the pump and fill your tank completely
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Declined! Your debit card may soon be denied for purchases greater than $100 -- or even as little as $50.

JPMorgan Chase, one of the nation's largest banks, is considering capping debit card transactions at either $50 or $100, according to a source with knowledge of the proposal.

Why? Because of a tricky thing called interchange fees.

They are doing this now, I've been declined filling up my diesel. If you want to fill your tank, you are going to have to prepay with cash.

Many pumps have a sign... if your purchase is larger than 75.00 you must re-start the pump (as if it's a new transaction).

Drivers of trucks and gas guzzler SUVs are inconvenienced.

I filled up today. The pump shut off at $75.00. I had to swipe my card again to finish filling. It took A total of $103.00 to fill my Tahoe today!

What I hate is when the bank puts a hold on $75 when I fill up my motorbike at $10. I can't get my money for a while after and it messes up my account.

This why it might be more advantageous to buy gas on a CC and just pay the balance every mo to avoid finance charges, instead of using a debit card, or process the Debit card AS a CC transaction.

Wah,wah,wah.....if you drive a gas guzzling Tahoe or whatever, you deserve to be inconvenienced. If you haven't seen the handwriting on the wall yet, you are blind and your license should be revoked anyway.

How is it that they can cap how much of MY money I take out of MY account?

Well, guess I will just cash my check and I won't have to worry about it.

Can't have people with full gas tanks - they don't want you making it to your bug out retreat without stripping you of anything of value first.

When they ask you debit or credit and you are using a debit, tell them credit. I use a debit that way to avoid any fees...it still comes out of the checking account.

I just drive about 60-70 miles, then fill my tank again. Psychologically it's easier to stomach 14.00 at a time rather than 60.00+ each time. Plus, it's better for your car to keep it full rather than let it get down to the dregs.

tonight it happened to my husband...in New Orleans...would only let him have 35.00...they say it's because of interchange fees...i don't believe that...it's because they know that Saudi is about to explode...and gas is about to hit an all time high....along with food, electricity and everything else...

No fly zone...even the people within the middle east resent our interference....to hell with going over there and starting world war 3....and to hell with their oil...why can't we just start drilling our own oil...?

WHY oh why do people who know better STILL do business with these fuckers?

Go with a small local bank or a credit union. If a bank operates in more than 1 state, stay away!

I do use BofA. For 1 thing. I own a business and I frequently need to get change. Years ago I got myself a bankamerica bank bag and now I always go to their drive thru for change. They won't do it for non-customers but because of that bag they think I am a customer. Why do I do it? Because I know it Costs THEM money. Just a couple of cents each time, but it is the thought that counts.

We should do everything in our power to put these bastards out of business.
'When Plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men,
they create for themselves, in the course of time,
a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.'
Frederic Bastiat, 'The Law'

"The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."
JohnSwinton, 1830-1901, Former chief-of-staff New York Times

"The bold effort the present bank has made to control the Government, the distress it has wantonly produced ... are but premonitions of the fate that awaits the American People should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution (The Bank of the United States), or the establishment of another like it." At 8 lbs/gallon you are burning more fuel carrying a full tank all the time...

I know nothing and if I think I know something I know nothing. I do not give legal advice because I don't know legal things.

Sorry, it's YOUR money in THEIR account, and they can decide when you get it, how they will hold pending charges for gas transactions and anything else they want to decide.

You GAVE it to them to manage and they are MANAGING it.

It's YOUR account when you can log in and add debit and credit to the account by your action alone.

You are part of the problem if you stay a customer when someone does something 'unconscionable' to you and all you do is complain.

YOU, not this poster, but a general statement of you, have given authority over yourself to someone else and wonder why they treat you like a child.

You register in a system that treats you like crap and then wonder why when you vote on one side or the other, the same she-eyt happens.

No one has the guts to say, I"m calling it quits out of this system..Now see how many people you can 'screw over' when you have zero people to call your constituents.

Oh and expired is not the same as calling it quits...just like it took action to be registered it takes action to unregister.

For big commercial trucks, like mine with a 150 gallon diesel capacity, it's isn't an inconvenience, it's a goddamn pain in the ass while also a bite in the ass of the wallet!!

I said "psychologically" it is easier. And it's better for an engine not to let your tank to get down to the dregs.

I used to wait until it was at 3/4 empty, then fill up, but like I said, it's mentally easier to do it this way.

To each his/her own. ;-)
