Funny you should bring this up. My wife and I live on a little over 30K per year, retired. Sister in law due to oil business of husband has about $4 million in the bank and recently sold rights for oil at over $100,000.

She lit into my wife lately as we have a lamp that they bought at a thrift store together, a pair. Ours had a label which would have made it worth another$50 and she has hated us for two years because ours was worth more than hers. When we trade labor, she does not pay, so she used to get things done for free.

You get the picture, wealth begets wealth through greed. By the way, we gave her our lamp so she is happy now, she is richer by another fifty dollars.

For the record, my wife and I are richer in happiness than they will ever experience in this life. They are a miserable couple and that is putting it mildly.

No one on the planet needs 1 BILLION dollars. That is just crazy.

I am not mad at the rich. I just do not understand why they do not try to help people in need. If I had that kind of money, I would donate 90% of it to the less fortunate and help people in need. You cant take money with you when you die.

Don't worry about it. I used to be a yacht captain on megayachts. In other words, I worked for real billionaires. Without exception, they were miserable people, usually despised by their own families, and living in fear that they would somehow lose their billions. Never able to tell if someone really liked them, or was just after the money. So they had to assume everyone was just after the money, and usually they were. Think about it. Their lives SUCKED.

It's funny, if you take away ALL the billionaires money, every dime, regardless of nationality. All that money is approx 4 trillion dollars. That would not fund the Federal Govt for a year. Billy Gates's employees and investors made hundred's of rich people. I think it's great when people succeed. I had 3 goals,dreams for my life. I have done all 3 and NONE had to do with money. So, in my eyes I am successful. The old joke about taking away all the rich people's money and give it to the poor...in 2 years the rick folks will have all their money back. Forbes is a money mag and who has the most is their ruler. Why make it yours? Money expands and contracts, it is not a static amount. So if Gates is a billionaire that doesn't mean you can't be...if that's what you want. Rather than worrying what so and so has, just work on your happiness. If you envy others you will never be happy.

Just how much money does it require for you to live a comfortable life? I would say $200,000 would be enough for anyone on the planet to have would be enough to live comfortably. I could probably even live off $100,000 a year to live comfortably. Most people probably live off of less than $50,000 a year.

I am not jealous. But geez, 1 BILLION dollars is enough for any human being on the planet to live a comfortable life. The GREED is what is destroying everything.

This is beyond the point. The bailouts just proved the entire monetary system is an entitlement system. Nothing about hard work and true capitalism here. Who gets funded is an entitlement.

If you want a multi million per year salary, apply for that type of job, underbid the current guy. If he makes 3 mill, offer to do his job for 2.5 mill.

The real answer there are more billionaires is bracket creep. Todays billion is the million of 30 years ago. Hey, wouldn't you rather see 50 billionaires than one worth 50 billion?
