Couple comments:

1) Federal Emergency Management Agency uses the conversion 1 rad = 1 rem. FYI. And yes,as a former NBC officer, I'll agree with you that this is BS. Alpha particles, easily ingested, cause more problems than particulates emitting gamma radiation.

2) The map is indeed a fraud. I would think that you -might- see a 50-100 rad exposure (sorry guys, see 1, I'm used to thinking in rads). Given the N pacific storms between here and there, I would expect any fallout to be washed out of the atmosphere before it hits shore.

3) that being said, I have 4 kids that are all pre-teens. Yes, I'm trying to buy some KI pills, as a precaution. I wear belts and suspenders too.
