It is up to you to decide what to do. SHR's credentials won't change the truth and he does not have access to all the information. He is just an educated person sharing information and opinion. It's not his job to tell you to go ahead and take an iodine dose or to run to the mountains.

I won't tell you what to do either, but I am handing out a little iodine with the daily vitamins to my family and buying a new high quality filter for the home central air system. If I find another good iodine source while I'm out shopping, I'll probably add that to the bottle of pills I have at home.

I'm not running for the mountains. I'm not saying you shouldn't, just that you should calmly make a decision after doing the best research you can with the tools available.
 Quoting: ADEND

Yes of course it is. But this is the way it is: every evidence and information is flying around so rampantly now that it's making alot of people panic and when people panic, they want a leader. It is a natural reaction. But they want a leader with truth. Someone they can trust. Someone who will help them survive.

Our wonderful presidents sure will never be one. after all, he referred to this as a "potential catastrophe".

So I was being figurative there. Yes, we will decide when to take things. I might go out for more Vitamin C as now I wonder about my stock of it. And I might add more to my stash as well.

Yes, I want to be calm and make the best decisions.

Ok, somebody point out the flaw in my sand theory...At Chernobyl they used concrete which is retarded, because high temperatures break down concrete to it's basic ingredients, but sand melts to molten mass and with enough layers will form a glass dome that will contain all radiation...

As an average layperson, I must say I am totally confused as to what to believe.
 Quoting: JessinPensacola

Did you see the explosion?

Did you see the massive Shock Wave emanating right before the explosion??

Trust what you see. The explosion was absolutely MASSIVE .. and would have killed anyone inside or near the plant. What could possibly cause such an explosion besides a total destruction of the pressurized containment vessel?

Have you seen any pictures of the damage afterwards? I HAVE NOT SEEN EVEN ONE. I believe the reason is authorities don't want anyone to see how extensive the damage is.

Use your own faculties for determinig the truth. Expanding the evacuation zone to 20 kilometers should be a heads-up for everyone.
 Quoting: upstateny

What was the darkened area in the center of the blast that seemed to rise up and stay suspended? Any ideas?

YES!!! You are catching on to the idea. When I go to the doctor I never trust them because they have a credential. I do my own investigation of the diagnosis and proposed treatment. I expect them to treat based on the latest pharmaceutical advertisement in their AMA journal, the latest fad in medicine, or the latest government recommendation.

If SHR posted his three PhDs in relevant diciplines, I would trust him LESS not more.
 Quoting: ADEND

Right, but you are not!!! Let me see, when you are in the ER all banged up from a massive accident, in a coma, half dead, whatcha gonna do?

Excuse me doctor, can I see your credentials? You have a laptop? I need to research to see if what you are wanting to do to save my life is the best thing. I need some peer reviewed journals and probably about a week to get myself up to speed. THen I need to carefully weight my options and THEN I might let you go ahead and operate on my to save my life.

Don't know if this has been mentioned. Just saw a scientist on CNN who stated the sea water cooling of the reactor is a desparate measure that will most likely not work. He also stated that there is a special kind of fuel that contains plutonium in these reactors and its even more dangerous than the usual fuel if released and that it should be banned worlwide

The pagan nazi collaborating idiots constructed their nuclear plants on the east coast at Fukumama adjacent to the Japan Trench where the earthquakes occur. Had the nuclear plants been located on the west coast of japan they would be subject to much less seismic shock and tusami free.

check this out.....

The chest xray uses an average of 3/100 of 1 Rad...

with me so far?....o.k. let´s keep going...

For example, exposing a person to approximately 100 rads of radiation (0.1 Gray) or the equivalent of 100 CT scans to the total body results in a slight decrease in the circulating white cells and platelets. This will happen in everyone exposed to this dose.....

now look at the map and note the rad content on the left corner.....

Japan's nuclear agency rates accident at Fukushima plant at 'four' out of a
possible seven on the international scale, from AFP

INES Level 4: Accident with local consequences

Impact on People and the Environment

Minor release of radioactive material unlikely to result in implementation of planned countermeasures other than local food controls.
At least one death from radiation.

Impact on Radiological Barriers and Control
Fuel melt or damage to fuel resulting in more than 0.1% release of core inventory.
Release of significant quantities of radioactive material within an installation with a high probability of significant public exposure.

Examples:

* Sellafield (United Kingdom) – 5 incidents 1955 to 1979[4]
* SL-1 Experimental Power Station (United States) – 1961, reactor reached prompt criticality, killing three operators.
* Saint-Laurent Nuclear Power Plant (France) – 1980, partial core meltdown.
* Buenos Aires (Argentina) – 1983, criticality accident during fuel rod rearrangement killed one operator and injured 2 others.
* Jaslovské Bohunice (Czechoslovakia) – 1977, contamination of reactor building.
* Tokaimura nuclear accident (Japan) – 1999, three inexperienced operators at a reprocessing facility caused a criticality accident; two of them died.
* Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant (Japan) – 2011, reactor shutdown after earthquake, failure of emergency cooling caused an explosion.

How many incidents like this have to happen before TPTB decide that Nuke power is not so good after all?

News that radiation is lessening should be ignored as lies.
The news that it is bad are more likely to be the truth.
How many of those scientists who are telling us how bad it is will have sudden heart attacks and die?

I have no idea what the half-life is of this fallout honestly-two weeks may not be near enough.A nuke uses most of that energy in the bombs explosion. An out of control reactor doe not.

If one reactor goes bang and one more is close to being tits up-you have a huge probability of a no mans land around the second one so that would also be a possible catastrophic event if no one can get to work on it.

Water pumped into the core in an uncontained manner results in huge amounts of radioactive steam and gas. When you get into a China Syndrome type nightmare a constant venting of vaporized radioactive matter spews up somewhere-even if its alot of glass(sand) on top while its molten it allows gases to seep thru-rather violently.

Now- to the important point-that map that someone posted...
where did that come from? Whats the history behind it?
Because if they plan on 750 rads for the western USA EVERYTHING there dies.I assume its 350 rads for the rest of the USA-ALOT of things die in that zone.

Again I do not know the half-life of these alleged particles. But I suspect its a hell of alot more than the fallout from a "clean" nuclear weapon-meaning that if the 750 number is right-the USA most of Canada and most of Mexico will be a long long term radioactive dead zone.
Again please post the source and background regarding that map.
If this is anyway close to credible we are in a giant global catastrophe.

At 8:30 last night. CNN had a nulear power expert who worked on Chernoble. The guy started to say "fail", then cought himself and corrected. He was clearly nervous and body language suggested panic.
I am not buying any official lines here, and we could be looking at Chernoble Meltdown Scenario.
