Explosion at the Fukushima Nuclear power plant in Japan and possible meltdown coming.

Lol..yeah that stuff doesn't bother me...I always tell people anyway...take in what you want to..decide for yourselves...;)

As an average layperson, I must say I am totally confused as to what to believe. We have 3 news channels to watch, where we see a countless parade of so called "experts". Some tell us everything is fine, and this Nuclear problem will be confined to a local area. We have some "experts" who tell us this could be a global problem if it comes to a complete meltdown. The news coming out of Japan ( I listened to a news conference at like 6:30 am Eastern this morning)is that the reactors are fine and the radiation levels have been declining. I guess what worries me is the fact we don't really know who to believe, and in a possible crisis situation..we need to know that in order to protect ourselves and our families.

I suppose considering the fact we DON"T know who or what to believe, its best to prepare for the worst and hope for the best, as cliche as that sounds.

Experts on TV are lying like there's no tomorrow.
So maybe I can get some truth from a quack like me.

Don't know if this has been mentioned. Just saw a scientist on CNN who stated the sea water cooling of the reactor is a desparate measure that will most likely not work. He also stated that there is a special kind of fuel that contains plutonium in these reactors and its even more dangerous than the usual fuel if released and that it should be banned worlwide

The core has been breached because cesium and other materials have been detected.

I'm very worried about this!

What will the effect of the fallout be on crops in California?

Just curious because we already have high food prices from the freezes this winter.

Could fallout from this make crops in California unsafe?

If it haven't already happened yet. There is only a time factor now before there is a meltdown there are still magnitude 6+ Earthquakes going off outside their coast as we speak.

NO nuclear power plants are built to take this continuously. Just as well prepare for multiple meltdowns now.

Are there any stats on how fast such a core meltdown proceeds?

I wonder how many hours / days it would take before the nearby reactors are affected by the initial incident.

If it's a chain reaction of epic proportions that can't be stopped then the Japanese government should better tell us about it...

I have contact with Star Fleet personnel and it happened, and it is being contained and decontamination features are being used. They ALWAYS do this, as they ALWAYS come to babysit planets when nuclear energy and bombs are discovered and used as the possible destruction of a planet can occur and this will damage the soul. Ditto scalar energy use.

If you could pipe your way back into and out of the reactor vessel and bring in temporary pumps, the surrounding ocean would act as the cooling tower. I'm sure that the heat transfer qualities of salt water over the type of water thats normally used is not as effective in absorbing the heat out of the reactor. Dumping water on it would not accomplish anything, you need flow in order to extract the heat out.

At the same time you would be sending radiation into the ocean which is a bad situation, but maybe it could be contained in some way.

It would be a huge task to accomplish in a short timeframe under dangerous conditions.
