Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1291884The doctors see no point in inflicting what they consider unproductive emotional pain on the dying. "Tokyo Journal; When Doctor Won't Tell Cancer Patient the Truth By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF, Published: February 25, 1995 TOKYO, Feb. 24— When Emperor Hirohito began to vomit inexplicably and then lost weight and energy, his doctors never told him what just about everyone else in Japan eventually came to know: He was dying of cancer. Hirohito may have been a virtual god in the early part of his reign, but he was also a patient -- and doctors in Japan mostly lie to cancer patients, even former divinities. "I don't regret that I didn't tell him about his cancer," Akira Takagi, the Emperor's chief doctor, said at the time of Hirohito's death in 1989. " [link to query.nytimes.com] |

Anonymous Coward 03/12/2011 03:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's my guess that Japan is capable of handling this situation without letting the rest of the world be contaminated, or even let it get to that point for themselves. I mean, they have robots, okay? ROBOTS. I'm sure everyone who can help them will. Japan is a big deal... no way they're going down, at least not without a super robot fight. |

Yet, to get even more on track one does need to find out who manufactured these particular plants and what make and model they are to go even more elaborate and precise. Read somewhere (rumor or not) that this plant had been built by General Electric. I do not know if this is true or not. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1144159Any ideas? Can confirm the G.E. association, though not sure in what capacity, I watched an NBC reporter reporting the story do a disclaimer that G.E. owned NBC and had some type of involvement in the nuclear power plant we're discussing. Own it, maybe, built it? Not sure. Have a lovely day... |

I can supply no links at this time. Quoting: D. BunkerWell...that's about as bad news gets. Assuming that is true, it'd be virtually impossible to cool the core down once it really get's going into melt, flooding it with sea water would either cause it to blow up due to the over pressure created by steam or hydrogen gas or both...it would also create a virtual flood of radioactive water and steam gushing out...the scary thing is?...that may actually be a better alternative than allowing it to burn up and meltdown completely...so it really looks like this may end very badly...and that's just reactor #1....there are more to go and if #1 goes, I doubt that anyone is going to be able to stay there on site to manage the others... ____________________________________________________ E-mail anytime [email protected] Inquiring about a ban?, include the IP address found here. SHR (OP) Forum Administrator 03/12/2011 03:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nice summary SHR. Quoting: ^àTOn^If it comes to the worst case, what radius could be contaminated ? 10 square miles ? 30 square miles ? 1000 square miles ? Tokyo is about 200 miles away ...... Thanks Depends on the level of contamination...and for how long..initialy? If it went into a real breached out meltdown? I would guess a 15 mile radius would be total evac and high level radioactivity would go with the wind for a very long distance....it could very reach tokoyo and far beyond with radioactive particles...they are light and travel well...rain comes?...down they come too...on top of "just" having them in the air....how much and for how long is it going to take to kill or cause many of the other adverse medical effects has been a matter of debate since pretty much the atomic age began...I personally prefer my upload of radiation to be at a minimum... ____________________________________________________ E-mail anytime [email protected] Inquiring about a ban?, include the IP address found here.
