Anonymous Coward User ID: 856055 United States 03/12/2011 03:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have good sources that indicate Japan's nuclear reactor container was breached. I can supply no links at this time. Quoting: D. BunkerWell...that's about as bad news gets. Assuming that is true, it'd be virtually impossible to cool the core down once it really get's going into melt, flooding it with sea water would either cause it to blow up due to the over pressure created by steam or hydrogen gas or both...it would also create a virtual flood of radioactive water and steam gushing out...the scary thing is?...that may actually be a better alternative than allowing it to burn up and meltdown completely...so it really looks like this may end very badly...and that's just reactor #1....there are more to go and if #1 goes, I doubt that anyone is going to be able to stay there on site to manage the others... Time will tell, but I am concerned about US Naval personnel being sent in before we know what is on the ground. It may be irrelevant in the North where most of the need is. This fuckin' shit is in China's backyard. They should be doing something about this...not us. Hell, send that pipsqueak Kim Jong into ground zero. All your radiation are belong to us |

My best friends have a son that is stationed in Sasebo, whose ship was off the coast of Malaysia (I believe they said) who were called off liberty and sent to help. His children also live in Japan. I was able to communicate with his estranged Japanese wife via Facebook, and know that they were ok after the initial quake/tsunami, as they are in a mountain in the south of Japan. But this is definitely scary, as the ship is headed INTO the zone of the reactor! |

Quoting: ^àTOn^If it comes to the worst case, what radius could be contaminated ? 10 square miles ? 30 square miles ? 1000 square miles ? Tokyo is about 200 miles away ...... Thanks Depends on the level of contamination...and for how long..initialy? If it went into a real breached out meltdown? I would guess a 15 mile radius would be total evac and high level radioactivity would go with the wind for a very long distance....it could very reach tokoyo and far beyond with radioactive particles...they are light and travel well...rain comes?...down they come too...on top of "just" having them in the air....how much and for how long is it going to take to kill or cause many of the other adverse medical effects has been a matter of debate since pretty much the atomic age began...I personally prefer my upload of radiation to be at a minimum... SHR their last line in pumping sea water directly into the chamber it has a seperate pumps and seperate power sources.. From what I understand that would show more white smoke/steam.. that has not happened yet from the pics on Kyodo news. But if you breach #1, there are 3 others that are really close.. and wow not good. |

If it is accurate it means death for many people. What does it mean? What is a RAD? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1034800RAD is "radiation absorbed dose" and that is why the map is claimed to be bogus... it is impossible to predict "absorbed dose" because if you are in an airtight structure you won't absorb anything!
