The djed pillar guy was an interactive computer program put together by a university in Spain.

The programmers scanned in an obscure book about the djed pillar myth and the program was to conduct human like interaction over a web blog, glp being one of them.

The program had difficulty conducting meaningful interaction, as can be seen in the numerous posts it made.

They have since made great improvements to it's interactive ability and it has already conducted web blogs that are indistinguishable from real people.

The main reason they picked GLP for the djed pillar interactive was because they knew it would seem very quirky an schizophrenic, but would fit in and fool a lot of people on GLP, which it did.

I have heard that the program was tested on a blog recently where respondents were even told that the program was one of the respondents and that they were to guess which respondent was the program, and 75% of the people chose real people instead of the program.

The implications of this are actually quite profound.

I actually know one of the 3 indivduals who wrote the software for the interactive program, and they were indeed flattered that so many people were fooled by it on GLP.

The challenge of the program was to take an esoteric subject that no one knew anything about and the obscure dejd pillar book they found was a good candidate.

The object of the program was to download everything in the book and then make arbitrary reports of the contents and then answer questions from respondents.

The only two things that were downloaded into the program was the dejd pillar book and a golfing magazine. If you go back to the threads you will notice that the program never wandered from those two subjects.

What made the program kind of life-like was a certain amount of disconnected dichotomy to create the illusion of a real person, however rather schizophrenic by programing it to use words like "ass" repeatedly.

There is no real person to find, just an interactive software project. The program has come a long way since the dejd pillar experiment, and I can say that it is virtually indistinguishable from a real person at this point.

However, I am a bit concerned that this technology could be used in the wrong way since a computer can field a 1000 blogs at once, thereby influencing millions of people with propaganda. The researchers assured me that this will never happen and that it will only be used for automated interactive information services. --- I hope.
