Think, if all the water is contaminated, unless you have the whole poland spring factory locked down, your only going to live about a month more than anybody else and then, your toast too. Anonymous Coward User ID: 967614 United States 03/13/2011 05:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Radiation seeps into everything, even bottled water. If it leaks out and is spread world wide, it will effect not only your food, water but your body through the skin anyway. You can buy all the water and food you want it will not make a difference. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1277891But that would be in extreme concentration of radioactivity I would think. Any amount of radiation will effect the environment in the long term. It effects the cells of your body. The damage cannot be repaired once it has occured. Small amounts will still bring up problems in health in the long term. Large amounts will result in problems within days and weeks. You can research it all online...all information is accessible. It is pretty clear that radiation results in long term damage. Not something you can say will go away in a short amount of time. It can take generations before the environment is able to clean itself, and even then it will impact nature perminantly. Yes, but the radiation danger dissipates. Over how much time, I don't know. The half-life depends on what theyre using. Do you know how long it took before people moved back into Nagasaki? And, do they grow food there now? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1278834 United States 03/13/2011 05:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | $280 in water? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1286199Why didn't you just go out and buy a few 50 gal drums and fill them from your faucet? Another funny one. Maybe punchy. Is it just me or is everyone seriously just overload on everything right now? Acually, buying the barrels costs about 55.00 for a 55-gallon, and filling it from the tap costs pennies, MEANWHILE buying bottled water works out to about 1.00 per gallon. so, it makes very little difference whether you buy the barrel or the smaller gallon-packs, at least in my neck of the woods. In any case, the barrels are easier to store, but the gallon-packs are easier to move around if needed. Personal choice. No I agree, I almost bought one the other day for that reason. I guess it just struck me as funny. I have done both bottled and water for drinking and water for showering, general use (like I would keep in a barrel). I used milk jugs. They can't be sterlized for drinking water because the surface isn't smooth enough. But for anybody thinking of doing it you can use 2 litre soda bottles for drinking water IF you sterilize with one tsp. of bleach. touch all surfaces on inside, the cap. Then dont touch inside of cap when you screw it on. Good for about 2 years I think. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1284254 United States 03/13/2011 05:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | just water? Quoting: run away slaveJust water because reservours are open to radiated dust falling from the atmosphere. You wouldn't be able to flter it out! It wouldn't take much to make you sick or worse! Only thing you could do is distill it. I don't believe that is quite right - My understanding is that Reverse Osmosis water filters will filter out the radio active particles. I hooked one of these up to my whole house fed from a well, a number of years back. Tastes better then bottled water.. "In addition, Reverse osmosis treatment is an insurance policy against nuclear radiation such as radioactive plutonium or strontium in the drinking water. If one lives near a nuclear power plant, this is a key way to ensure the household is drinking the best water for their health." [link to www.freedrinkingwater.com] |

Yes, but the radiation danger dissipates. Over how much time, I don't know. The half-life depends on what theyre using. Do you know how long it took before people moved back into Nagasaki? And, do they grow food there now? I think that most people died who were close to this event in that time. I have heard of some survivors but they are going through problems with cancer and so forth even now. So the long term results are compounded, from generation to the next. Growing food there? I suppose to them they are already effected and in those times they did know very little about the result of radiation poisoning. So you can imagine they have been for many years eating and drinking what is potentially still affected by radiation. They do not measure this stuff much, they would rather hide it away, than show the true impact of these things for the fact that they now cannot do much about it. The thing is that they cannot do much for these farming people and so forth in these regions. If they moved people, where would they go, how would they house them and give them food? It is pretty clear and obvious that no one ever really considers the long term effects of things. That is why Japan has so many of these power stations. It is only when damage occurs that anyone bother to look up and then it is too late to change what has happened. Money first then consequences later. |

In all likelihood, such water sources will be banned. And true to its form, disaster capitalism will take effect, banned city water supplies means bottled water will be the only alternative, and that means that people like the Bushes that own large water sources in other countries, ie, not America, will be selling water at higher and higher prices, making great fortunes, more than they would with oil. |
