In the meantime, there have been suggestions that an incident at reactor 3 would inherently be more dangerous than at reactors 1 and 2 because it burns "mixed oxide fuel" (MOX) containing plutonium.

Plutonium is produced during nuclear fission, so is present in all reactor cores - the longer the fuel has been there, the more plutonium will be present, up to about 1%.

In some countries, spent fuel rods are re-processed and the plutonium set to one side.

However, Japan - in an attempt to be more frugal with a valuable resource - has a programme that mixes the plutonium coming out of the re-processing facility back into new fuel rods that also contain uranium. This is MOX fuel.

So, reactor 3 fuel rods will contain more plutonium than those in reactor 1.

But this would only become an issue if there were an explosion or a catastrophic meltdown. The radioactive release so far has been of much lighter fission products and of short-lived nuclei generated in cooling water, which are identical no matter which fuel is used.

How is Mox fuel different then uranium? The BBC has also confirmed that Mox Fuel has been used in plant #3!

I had a dream in the night while the quake was on. You know the sort when its apocolyptic for yourself, either war or zombies dream, definately that kinda vibe in it, like I say, now and again in your life everyone gets a disasterous zombie, world war type dream thats harsh or major because of the scenario. Well it was that sort that night. Anyway was with some people at the bottom of a hill in some woods, at the top were some old skool soldiers like ww2. They were hostile, Or couldnt go up there because they were there, anyway back to the bottom of the hill scene, someone pulls out a drug, like blood mixed with heroin, So I say what is it? They said its heroin. Even though I dont touch the stuff I took it. I said what will it do and they said it will make you feel tired.

i think they're just using this to their advantage now, to keep everyone distracted, like they do with every potential doom scenario.

Some fact might be helpfull I took this from the clip.


1.MOX rods look the same as normal rods.
2.Each fuel assembly has 264 fuel rods
3.Each fuel assembly is 30 feet in lenght (9.144 meters)
5.weights 1500 pounds.

With 50% of the rods exposed, that means that 50% of the core is melting( or at a point where melting can happen.)
From what I've read , the water or graphite is used as the rod seperator...so now water, no seperation...melting starts.

So do I understand that the plutonium/MOX chit does not penetrate the skin, but must be inhaled or ingested to be of concern? I'm asking, because this is what I'm hearing.

eventually, it contacts the copious amounts of magma miles beneath the nuke plant, and KABOOM, huge, volcanic/radioactive cloud gets shot up into the jetstream, to spread around the globe.
