Quake in Japan has sped up time... | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1034800 United States 03/13/2011 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My son commented today that the sun went down more quickly today over the horizon. Weird. I told him we had to leave the park when the sun hit the horizon. We started leaving and the next time we looked at the sunset, the sun was already gone. Then he said that time was speeding up. He is only 8 years old... could he be that perceptive? |

Then he said that time was speeding up. He is only 8 years old... could he be that perceptive? Well, it's a matter of perspective...you have to think in terms of relativity...for example: You guys were at the park having fun, so time flew by, but see how slow time goes when you make him eat brussels Sprouts or clean his room :) I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1293433See, I told ya! My atomic clock doesn't know it yet though :( I hate setting all the damned clocks in the house... "The Earth's rotation causes the sun to "set." The closer to the equator you are, the closer to perpendicular the sun travels relative to the horizon, and the faster the sun will set relative to the horizon. If you stand on the Arctic Circle on June 21 (or Antarctic Circle on Dec 21) you will see that the sun doesn't set, it will very slowly come down to the horizon, then pass parallel to the horizon, and then rise again over a period of several hours. That is the reason that twilight is of a longer duration at northern regions than it is in equatorial regions." Interesting, we are in Hawaii, so we are closer to the equator. Maybe the difference appears even faster here. We also do not observe daylight savings time so we don't change our clocks. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1123151 United States 03/13/2011 10:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, it shortened the day anyway...which is just fine, I was getting way too much done of a day anyhow... Quoting: BRIEF[link to www.cbsnews.com] I have a weird question for the experts, because I don't know... 1. Isn't the Earth's magnetosphere the weakest it's ever been? (which is the reason why the solar events have been so damaging?) 2. When the Earth spins, doesn't that help to restore the magnetosphere? (I just watched the movie, the Core... so if it is silly, forgive me) |

I don't think the spinning of the Earth does that, but rather the spinning of the core... I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder.
